Asia-Pacific airline capacity: August 2017


FlightGlobal schedules data for August shows all 10 airline operating groups tracked in
the Asia-Pacific monthly report will increase capacity in terms of ASKs compared with
the same month last year.

But the two carriers with the smallest rise in ASK capacity network carrier pair Cathay Pacific and
Singapore Airlines will both cut

capacity roughly flat, it is continuing to expand its low-cost sector operations. Budget unit Scoot is
targeting a capacity growth of 15% by the end of its 2017 financial year, following its integration with
Tigerair which was completed in July.

August capacity is also down, on an ASK basis, at Turkish Airlines though it has slightly more capacity
in terms of seats. The airline had pulled back planned capacity growth amid the hit on demand that
followed geopolitical challenges in Turkey last year.

Ultra low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines is the only North American carrier among those
tracked in August by FlightGlobal which is set to increase capacity at a double-digit

American market in terms of overall


capacity, FlightGlobal schedules data for August shows. American Airlines has the most intra-North
American capacity, closely followed by Delta Airlines. Southwest is the third biggest operator in terms
of seat capacity, though United Airlines is bigger as measured by flights and ASKS.

The Atlanta and Chicago OHare hubs of Delta and United respectively are the biggest airports for
intra-North American flights in terms of flights and seats.

Los Angeles though has the most capacity in terms of ASKs. The Californian airport features among five
of the 10 biggest routes in terms of seat capacity. That includes the west coast service linking LA with
San Francisco, which accounts for the most capacity in terms of flights and seats, as well as the New
York JFK services, which has the most capacity in terms of ASKs the data shows.
