4. INPUT PARAMETERS

4.1. Description of PRCI Program

PRCI AC Coupling Precision Program 1.5 was used for AC interference study.
This Program was developed for calculation of AC interference problem
between high voltage electric transmission line and pipeline.

The capability of the program is as follows:

Longitudinal Electric Field Calculations. The program enables the

calculation of the inductively coupled longitudinal field existing at the
pipeline for steady state operation of the power line(s). Multiple power
line circuits having different configurations can be modeled. The second
module allows the longitudinal electric field to be calculated for single
phase to ground power line faults. Both inductive and conductive coupling
components are included in the analyses.
Interaction Geometry Modeling. The physical interaction geometry
between the pipeline and electric power transmission line must be
modeled properly so as enable accurate predictions of induced voltage
and current levels. The program provides simplified and, when possible,
an automated procedure for data input of the physical geometry.
Pipeline Induction Levels Prediction. With the source fields exciting the
pipeline and the interaction geometry modeled, the pipe to soil potential
could be calculated for steady state condition. Under fault conditions, the
voltage stress developed across the coating is calculated.
Grounding Mitigation Design. If induced voltage levels for either steady
state or fault conditions exceed industry acceptable levels, mitigation
implementation is indicated. Provision is made to determine voltage
induction reduction for grounding systems which may consist of individual
discrete grounding such as horizontal buried conductors or vertical deep
anodes; distributed systems such as vertical or horizontal anode strings;
and continuous horizontal conductors periodically bonded to the pipeline.

about 1.2m.

The conductor of the 132kV transmission line is ACSR/AW Ostrich and the
average height of the three phase conductors are 19m, 21.35m, 23.7m. The
relative positions of the three phase conductors of the transmission line is

6. CONCLUSION

According to the requirments of the standards NACE SP0177-2007, the potential

value of the pipe arised from the overhead line can not exceed the limit 15V. Base on
the calculate result as shown in Section 5, The maximum induced pipeline potential
during steady state, normal load conditions will be less than 0.3V, which does not
exceed the safety limit. Therefore, the mitigation measures on the pipeline are not
required.
