Nowadays, the discussion on whether which skills and knowledge should be instructed in schools is

one of the most significant issues in society. Some acknowledge that math and reading skills are
more paramount than other subjects because it can foster the ability needed in future life for young
student, especially those who aim to work as a doctor or engineer. However, I am an advocate of the
statement that arts and social skills are more necessary for any individual who will become an adult
because of several reasons. First, this knowledge can bring about the ability to effectively with
people from different culture, gender, religion, race and ethnicity. In a todays globalized world, we
need to be able to have positive relationships with one another. Secondly, problem solving can be
acquired from studying arts and social skills so that it can bolster them to becoming a well-adjust
mature person. This essay will expose the supportive ideas and major reasons why being expert in
humanity and social skills are essential.

Firstly, one of the major factors why students need acquire knowledge of social interactions and arts
is the way they are able to provide moral and social development and can lead them to becoming a
well-adjusted person. Based on my personal experience as a professor in intercultural
communication, social skills and arts can ameliorate children to be more ethnocentric to people from
different backgrounds. They tend to accept those of other religion, gender, race and ethnicity and
view them from an impartial perspective. The students in my class who studied these subjects
usually effectively and appropriately adjust their communication skills and values to those who think
differently from their personal angle. Therefore, every school or University should include these
programs into their own institution.

Secondly, many academic researches which have proved that the more you learn about social and
humanity skills, the more you develop an ethnorelative, ethnical and decorum points of view. One of
the most famous theories is intercultural sensitivity created by Dr. Bennett. It describes how students
can become a well-adjusted mature when they acquire knowledge and skills of society and arts. To
provide an illustration to this, the research states that people who put emphasis on social skills tend
to view the world from different perspectives with a low degree of biased attitudes. They are more
likely than the ones that focus more on math and reading skills to perform a positive relationship
with those from other cultures, especially when these students go to study aboard. As a result, they
are able to live comfortably as a global citizen who withholds judgment, not based on one viewpoint,
but attempting to accept diversity and communication skills that are important to build mutual and
understanding with different cultures.

However, some might say math and reading skills are more needed for the educational curriculum
for young children. This is due to the fact that these abilities can assist students to produce a
productive performance when attending a graduate school program. Many high education levels
require each individual to know how to solve the obscure problems, based on statistical and reading
approach. If your aim is to become a lecturer, you need to be able to read highly educated texts and
information. Most of them also come with mathematics and how to find the solution to the problem.
This is the main reason why any schools should foster math and reading classes for young children to
become an erudite scholar in the future.

To conclude, my statement has made it unequivocal that I string support the idea that schools should
engender an educational curriculum that emphasizes social skills and arts because these skills have
already been empathically researched by many scholars that it can bolster people to grow up to be a
well-adjusted and moral person in society. However, we should not refuse the essential of learning
about math and reading since it also can early prepare students to be adaptable to the higher
education level demands the ability to read erudite texts and solve the puzzles, based on statistics.
