UNIVERSITY OF SAN AGUSTIN

ABSTRACT

Filipino artists' plays a vital role in arts industry all over the world. Art Education is an individualized
program designed for art education students who are dedicated to understanding, interpreting, and
positioning themselves in relation to the language, theory, and social context of the arts and visual culture.
In order to respond to essential needs of the todays world, education should not merely transmit
knowledge and technique, but also encourage children to build their creativity by supporting their
emotional development and ethical consciousness. Students in the program prepare to become exemplary
facilitators and designers of active learning in schools.

The main objective of the study aims to design a facility that is unique and has its own character that
would reflect the lives of the artists and to integrate building technologies in the structure by applying
morphogenesis as a design approach. This book is a compilation of studies, data & survey that support the
feasibility here in the city of Iloilo for developing an Iloilo School for the Arts.

The study uses descriptive type of research. This research was conducted in order to determine the needs
of the city to develop an art school for the artists in Iloilo City. The primary purpose of the study was to
design an energy-efficient, comfortable and environmentally wise art school through the benefit of the
application of the morphogenesis design. The respondents of the study were the students of art schools
here in Iloilo City, as well as the professionals. The surveys and interviews were based on the existing
situation of the respondents by measuring their needs and demands for facilities.

The establishment of the Iloilo School for the Arts is feasible given its many advantages to the existing
arts programs in Iloilo City Alone. The research had also proven that the Iloilo School for the Arts is
indeed a need in Iloilo because of the lack of facilities that cater to an student and artists needs, a school
wherein an artistic student can learn more and achieve more than from what is existed as of today in the
city of Iloilo who will also be the users of the said proposal. The Iloilo School for the arts will then be
integrated with art studios, including a theatre hall, exhibit, outdoor activities and classrooms for the users.
Given that the Philippines is a tropical country, Morphogenesis principles were applied such as natural
day lighting and passive cooling to make use of natural energy as well as to minimize energy
consumption.
