SYSTEM OVERVIEW

General topology
The Servo Controlled Voltage Stabilizer
comprises of a DC motorised double wound
dimmerstat. The input Voltage is given to the
Start and Brush Point of dimmerstat and Output
is taken from Start and Tap of dimmerstat. The
controller circuit continuously monitors the
output voltage and the same is compared
against a reference voltage. Any change in the
output voltage will create an error in the
comparator and this will drive the DC Servo
motor in the forward or reverse direction, so as
to adjust the output voltage by driving the brush
arm of the dimmerstat. If the variation of the
input voltage goes beyond the specified input
range, the brush arm of the dimmerstat will be
driven to either extreme side of the dimmerstat,
the brush arm on reaching the end will
automatically cut the supply to the DC motor
and prevent further movement. When the supply
voltage returns to the specified input range,
supply to the DC motor will resume and correct
the output voltage to the set value.
When the output voltage crosses the
specified value, the control circuit gives supply
to the LED to annunciate the under/over voltage
condition.
Dimmerstat
The dimmerstat used in the stabilizer are of the
proper rated capacity and best reliable quality.

DC Motor
The DC motor used in the stabilizer is of low
speed 100 rpm, high torque. The motor is
coupled to the di mmerstat brush arm through a
reduction gear.

Control Circuit
The control PCB used in stabilizer is easy and
simple to maintain. The components are fully
solid state. The output feedback from the control
transformer will be filtered and converted to
RMS value. The comparator circuit will compare
this feedback signal with a highly stable
reference voltage.

Protection Systems
The output is monitored for under / over voltage
condition if the input supply goes beyond the
specified range or malfunction of the correction
circuits. If the output voltage goes beyond the
set value of under/over voltage, the control
circuit will light the under/over voltage LED.
INSTALLATION

Before installation of the unit, this instruction

manual should be thoroughly read.

The stabilizer should be carefully examined for any

transit damage

The stabilizer should be installed in a clean, cross

ventilated place, free from dust, heat and moisture

For models up to 3 kVA connection to the load is

through a 3 pin socket and the input supply to your
unit (depending on the load) is through a 3 pin plug
located on the rear side.

For VS5, the connections to the input supply and

load are through terminal blocks.

Care should be taken to connect the input and

output leads to the correct terminals, they should
not get interchanged.

The unit should be properly earthed.

The input and output cables should be sufficiently

rated and all terminations should be firmly tightened
