Lesson Content Description:


Students will be learning about democratic revolutions,
specifically in England for this lesson. The lesson will focus on
the progression of democracy in England, and will be
introducing the primary sources of the Magna Carta and the
English Bill of Rights of 1689.

Instructional Strategies/Method of Delivery:


PowerPoint
Graphic organizer- flow chart

Common Core Standard:


10.2.2 2. List the principles of the Magna Carta, the English Bill of Rights (1689), the
American Declaration of Independence (1776), the French Declaration of the Rights of Man
and the Citizen (1789), and the U.S. Bill of Rights (1791).

ELD Standard:
Grades 9-10 6. Reading/viewing closely a. Explain ideas, phenomena, processes, and
relationships within and across texts (e.g., compare/contrast, cause/effect, themes,
evidence-based argument) based on close reading of a variety of grade-level texts,
presented in various print and multimedia formats, using a variety of detailed sentences
and a range of general academic and domain-specific words.
Common Core Lesson Objective:
Students will be able to illustrate the development of democracy in England through a
graphic organizer.

Assessment:
Formative: Students will finish their graphic organizers, and respond to an exit ticket
question that assesses their understanding of the impact England had on the growth
of democracy.

Lesson/Assessment Modifications:
ELL: Has access to Google translate and to work with desk partner
Special Needs: Agenda and structured notes help organize students thought process

Technology: Describe the types of technology you will be utilizing in your lesson to

Students will have been introduced to the Magna Carta from the previous days
lesson, in which they viewed a short introductory video for the lesson and
completed a reading of a secondary source on it and answered questions.

Step-by-Step Anticipatory Set/Orientation
The agenda for the day will be on the board for the class to see
Students start the beginning of the period with daily opener- watch CNN 10 current
news video and write a response to the video on their Google Classroom
document.
Students will then transition into todays lesson with their flowchart graphic
organizer.
I will ask for a student volunteer to tell me what the Magna Carta is (review from
previous days lesson)

Re-state Common Core Content Standard and Objective:


Students will be able to illustrate the development of democracy in England through
a graphic organizer.

Technology used to create and enhance the introduction to this lesson:


PowerPoint used to introduce agenda for the day
Google Classroom and Chromebooks are for students to work on for their
daily opener.

EL: Can type out their answers and use Google translate as needed.
Special Needs Adaptations: The agenda is reviewed at the beginning of the period
in order to provide structure for the class period.

Step-by-Step Modeling/Presentation of the Objective
I will use a PowerPoint in order to introduce the details of the progression of
democracy in England
The slides resemble the same shape of box the students will need to fill in on their
graphic organizer, and I will model how to take notes on their flowchart organizer.
The presentation also has visual images for students to view.

Technology used to create and enhance modeling examples: PowerPoint presentation

EL & Special Needs: graphic organizer helps students better organize and structure
their information.

Step-by-Step Guided/Structured Practice of the Objective: Gradual Release of


Instruction
Students will be taking notes on their flowchart, as I go through the PowerPoint.
The slides are modeled after the flowchart organizer.
