Version 0.9 (31-5-04) ::

Finally, a more complete version for this guide. I added quite a few
new comments, and redid many of the old ones. I threw in the Support
Availability for all the characters too, and added misc. quotes of
characters taken from the game for the fun of it.

Additional note: I got fellow FE fan; Anwar to add a few comments on

some of the characters. Enjoy~
I guess with me, Iggy and now Anwar, this faq got enough comments,
so no more asking me of whether you can add yours too. I really
appreciate you guys' kind offer, but ya know, three is a crowd already...

Version 0.8 (19-2-04) ::

Nothing new from me, but quite a few new comments by Iggy Koopa again,
including characters' that I have not touch yet. I am basically
going through the game for *god-knows-how-many-times currently, so
expect another update coming soon!

Version 0.7 (8-1-04) ::

More comments added, including some done by Iggy Koopa, who will be helping
out on this FAQ in the future. Also added a little section called
'Recruitment' to make things easier for people who have trouble knowing
which specific character are available for recruitment in this game.

Version 0.6 (17-12-03) ::

Added stats for more characters as I just managed to replay the game the
5th time. Will be updating the characters' comments soon!

Version 0.55 (8-11-03) ::

Added some minor changes. And just a kind reminder to everyone:
REMEMBER TO CHECK OUT FIRELIZARD's CHARACTER GUIDE, SINCE HIS IS MORE
COMPLETE THAN MINE!!!

Version 0.5 (31-10-03) ::

First update. Incomplete.
Will update as soon as my exams are over :P

INTRODUCTION

================

This is my first attempt in doing a FAQ, so I am still quite new in this

aspect. My reasons in doing this FAQ is mainly because I wish to express my
own honest opinions/views on most, if not all, the playable characters in this
wonderful game.

So, with reference from what I have played, I am proud to present to you my
personal experiences and views on characters I have used. Please be reminded
that this FAQ is not 100% accurate, and without the full use of RNG, therefore
you might not agree with some of my comments.
But whatever it is, I hope this guide will roughly help (or at least,
entertain) you in your selection of characters that is to your taste.
Any further enquiries, comments, corrections, please feel free to contact me.
(And please no flaming, Thank you.)

Nice, fellow FE player; Iggy Koopa and Anwar are also helping me out in this
FAQ, such as giving their two-cents worth on the playable characters. For any
questions regarding their comments, you may contact them via email.
No flaming them as well. :D

//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

*Footnote: Characters with the 'optional' word means that they MAY NOT appear
on that specific Chapter, due to certain circumstances. Refer below for
further details.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[WALLACE & GEITZ]

At the end of Chapter 22x (Eliwood) / Chapter 23x (Hector), if Eliwood, Lyn
and Hector's Levels all add up to 50 or more, you will automatically be send
to the map which Linus will be the boss on the next chapter.
Geitz WILL then appear. Convince Geitz with Dart to recruit him.

If their total Levels are lower than 50, you will end up in Lloyd's map on the
next chapter.
Wallace WILL then appear instead. Convince Wallace with either Lyn, Sain, Kent
or Florina, in order to recruit him.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[HARKEN & KAREL]

At the end of Chapter 24 (Eliwood) / Chapter 26 (Hector), if your existing

magic users' (Mages, Clerics, Monks, Shamans, Troubadours) levels are higher
than your melee units' (Fighters, Mercenaries, Myrmidons) levels, you will
automatically be send to the map where the boss will be Kenneth, on the next
chapter.
If the opposite is true, you will then be send to the map which Jerme will be
the boss, on the next chapter.
The difference between the bosses will decide the conditions of Harken or
Karel's appearance, so please take note!

For Kenneth's Map:

If you kill more than 3 Promoted-enemies (Swordmasters, Generals, Sages,
Bishops etc) by the end of Turn 9, Karel WILL appear on Turn 9, otherwise
Harken will appear instead.
For Jerme's Map:
If you open more than 4 doors by end of turn 8, Karel WILL appear on Turn 9,
otherwise Harken will appear instead.

Either Maps, you may convince Karel with your lead protagonist (Eliwood or Lyn
on Eliwood's route / Hector or Lyn on Hector's route). Harken can be convinced
similarily, as well as by Isadora, Marcus, Oswin or Lowen.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[DART, VAIDA, JAFFAR, MERLINUS]

--------------------
Dart's Requirements:
--------------------

Basically on Chapter 18 (E) / 19 (H), Dart will appear on Turn 1 as a playable

unit.

Dart do make his first appearance in 16x (E) / 17x (H), as an enemy unit,
and if you do participate that Chapter, DO NOT kill him. Just ignore him.
Easily enough, he will not attack you, unless you strike him first.

---------------------
Vaida's Requirements:
---------------------

Vaida will make her first appearance as an over-powered enemy on Chapter

24 (E) / 26 (H). Do NOT kill her on that Chapter, and just try to ignore her.

She will then appear as an enemy again on Chapter 27 (E) / 29 (H). Speak with
Eliwood (if on Eliwood's Route) OR Hector (if on Hector's Route), in order to
recruit her.

----------------------
Jaffar's Requirements:
----------------------

On Chapter 26 (E) / 28 (H), Jaffar will appear as a NPC unit, as well as Nino.
Recruit Nino with either Lyn or your MAIN Lord, and then have Nino talk with
Jaffar. Jaffar WILL still remain as a NPC, but by doing so, you gain access to
the Side-Story (x) Chapter.

Participate in Chapter 26x (E) / 28x (H), and you will gain control of Jaffar
at the start of the chapter.

------------------------
Merlinus's Requirements:
------------------------

Merlinus WILL automatically join you at the beginning of:

Chapter 16 (E) / 17 (H). However, there is a way to get him slightly-earlier.

On Chapter 13, visit the Village on the north-western part of the map. This
will unlock Chapter 13x, and if you accomplish 13x, Merlinus will then be
usable on Chapter 14.

HOW TO USE THIS GUIDE:

Since the guide is moreorless based on my own personal experience with the
characters, I included the best set stats I have came across of each
individual character in my various plays. This may rougly help you to gauge
their potential, but you are to be warn that there is a possibility the
character might not turn out to your expectations.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
The maximum level a character can reach is 20. He/she needs to promote
in order to continue levelling up. After promoting, the character's level
will be reset to 1, and again, the maximum level is 20.
Non-promoted characters must be at least level 10 before promoting.

Promotion Items are:

- Hero Crest = For Mercenaries, Myrmidons, Fighters
- Guiding Ring = For Mages, Clerics, Monks, Shamans, Troubadours
- Elysian Whip = For PegKnights, WyvernRiders
- Knight Crest = For Cavaliers, Knights
- Orion's Bolt = For Archers, Nomads
- Earth Seal = For all abovementioned classes
- Ocean Seal = For Pirates
- Fell Contract = For Thieves
- Heaven's Seal = For Lords, except the MAIN Lord

LORD
##############################################################################

LYN ::
- A young girl from the Lorca tribe. Stouthearted and kind.

Recruit :
Joins in Chapter 0. Rejoins in Chapter 15 (E) / 16 (H).
Support Availability :
Eliwood, Hector, Kent, Florina, Rath, Wil, Wallace
Growth Rate :
HP 70%, Str 40%, Ski 60%, Spd 60%, Luk 55%, Def 20%, MDef 30%
Promotes to : Blade Lord

Koji's Comments :
[8.5/10]
As shown in the stats below, Lyn max-out her Skill & Speed stats with ease, if
given sufficient leveling ups. Her strength growth is usually not very
reliable though, and may result in a bit of a problem when dealing damage to
much tougher bosses late in the game. Other than that, she is an awesome
sword-user, and good bow-user after class-changed. Think Nomad+Myrmidon~

Iggy's Comments :
[9/10]
What happens if you combine a nomad and a myrmidon? You get Lyn! Lyn is the
best lord in my opinon (ok, she ties with Hector, if not). She may have low
strength, but her strength does rise at a rather steady rate. She would be a
perfect unit if she did not have such defenses and constitution. Because of
that, I'd just stick with giving her a bow when she's at a higher level, but
that's just my preference.

1st Play :
(Lv 20 Blade Lord)
HP: 53 Defense: 15
Strength: 24* Resistance: 15
Skill: 29* Build: 6
Speed: 30* Aid: 5
Luck: 24 Movement: 6
2nd Play :
(Lv 20 Blade Lord)
HP: 45 Defense: 16
Strength: 21 Resistance: 16
Skill: 29* Build: 6
Speed: 30* Aid: 5
Luck: 29 Movement: 6
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ELIWOOD ::
- Marquess Pherae's young son. Just and honorable.

Recruit :
Joins in Chapter 11 (E) / 12 (H).
Support Availability :
Ninian, Hector, Lyn, Fiora, Marcus, Harken, Lowen
Growth Rate :
HP 80%, Str 45%, Ski 50%, Spd 40%, Luk 45%, Def 30%, MDef 35%
Promotes to : Knight Lord

Koji's Comments :
[8.5/10]
Eliwood starts off kind of weak, turns well-rounded after a few levelling up,
and after class-changing, he just gets better. I like balanced characters, and
Eliwood fits the bill :). He do not really have any true weaknesses, but his
stats may not excel sometimes. A disappointment though, is that his speed
maxes out at 24, which is low considering the fact that he can easily acquire
a higher score if the limit was raised. Since he is one of the protagonists, I
always use him, in order to acquire support with ladies compatible with him;
My personal favorite being EliwoodxNinian. :P

Iggy's Comments :
[6/10]
Ok, I'm sure you'll be rather shocked that I rated him this low, but
personally, I think he is terrible. He does not have mad stats like some
characters do, and he tends to have low speed before promotion, I never ever
got to train him to a decent level before promoting. I never really liked him.
I know that sounded rather biased, but that is what I think.

1st Play :
(Lv 20 Lord Knight)
HP: 51 Defense: 23*
Strength: 25 Resistance: 19
Skill: 22 Build: 9
Speed: 24* Aid: 16
Luck: 29 Movement: 7
2nd Play :
(Lv 20 Lord Knight)
HP: 55 Defense: 20
Strength: 24* Resistance: 17
Skill: 23 Build: 9
Speed: 24* Aid: 16
Luck: 24 Movement: 7
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

HECTOR ::
- Marquess Ostia's younger brother. Reckless, but loyal.

Recruit :
Joins in Chapter 12 (E) / 11 (H).
Support Availability :
Lyn, Florina, Farina, Eliwood, Oswin, Matthew, Serra
Growth Rate :
HP 90%, Str 60%, Ski 45%, Spd 35%, Luk 30%, Def 50%, MDef 25%
Promotes to : Great Lord

Koji's Comments :
[9/10]
Hector is definitely an useful unit in the battlefield. He is able to dish out
major damage to most enemies, as well as able to take a couple of blows before
ever going down. Although Hector is able to use swords after class-changing, I
still prefer to let him stick to axes instead, as they alone are good enough.
It's a pity though that Hector's speed and skill maxes out at 24, as he could
probably go higher without that limit. Never mind, his superb strength and
defense make up for the loss. Probably the best lord you got in this game~
Iggy's Comments :
[10/10]
Ok, I was wrong. Hector is the best lord. First, he is an axe user.
It seems that there are more lance users in Hector's route, which makes him
even better. I usually get him to level 20 without even knowing it since I use
him so much. He has incredible strength and defense. His evade will be
extraordinary. And to top it off, he has one of the highest constitution in
the game. He can use any sword without any decrease in speed and practically
every axe. Use Hector, he is the best lord.

1st Play :
(Lv 20 Great Lord)
HP: 56 Defense: 25
Strength: 30* Resistance: 14
Skill: 24* Build: 15
Speed: 24* Aid: 14
Luck: 19 Movement: 5
2nd Play :
(Lv 20 Great Lord)
HP: 58 Defense: 29*
Strength: 30* Resistance: 16
Skill: 24* Build: 15
Speed: 20 Aid: 14
Luck: 19 Movement: 5

##############################################################################
CAVALIER --> PALADIN
##############################################################################

SAIN ::
- A knight in service to House Caelin. A bit of a scoundrel.

Recruit :
Joins in Chapter 1. Rejoins in Chapter 15 (E) / 16 (H).
Support Availability :
Fiora, Rebecca, Kent, Priscilla, Serra, Isadora, Louise
Growth Rate :
HP 80%, Str 60%, Ski 35%, Spd 40%, Luk 35%, Def 20%, MDef 20%
Promotes to : Paladin

"I am Sain! Sain of the Caelin knights! That Sain!"

Koji's Comments :
[7.5/10]
Sain's good. When you first get him, he is almost alike to Kent but after a
few level ups, he will probably have more Strength, but lesser Defense
compared to his counterpart. It's your choice on who to pick, but it doesn't
really make a difference since both Sain and Kent are good Cavaliars and in
the long run, the two will probably end up with more-or-less the same stats.
But if I do have to choose, I might want to pick Kent, probably because he
isn't like some flirt here...

1st Play :
(Lv 20 Paladin)
HP: 51 Defense: 13
Strength: 25* Resistance: 14
Skill: 19 Build: 11
Speed: 24* Aid: 14
Luck: 22 Movement: 8
2nd Play :
(Lv 18 Paladin)
HP: 52 Defense: 12
Strength: 24 Resistance: 9
Skill: 18 Build: 11
Speed: 20 Aid: 14
Luck: 20 Movement: 8
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

KENT ::
- A knight in service to House Caelin. Virtuous to a fault.

Recruit :
Joins in Chapter 1. Rejoins in Chapter 15 (E) / 16 (H).
Support Availability :
Lyn, Fiora, Farina, Sain, Wallace, Heath
Growth Rate :
HP 85%, Str 40%, Ski 50%, Spd 45%, Luk 20%, Def 25%, MDef 25%
Promotes to : Paladin

"It is a knight's honour to swear his fealty and his life."

Koji's Comments :
[7.5/10]
Kent is your other good Cavalier, besides Sain. If Sain has good Strength,
then Kent have better Defense and HP. So whose better, you ask? Take both of
them if you want, but either one of them will suffice, especially the one that
suits your taste. Sain may have a thing for girls, but Kent is the guy you
can probably rely more on, due to his personality, or just the way he fare on
the battlefield. Blah. Simply put, it's entirely up to your choice.

1st Play :
(Lv 20 Paladin)
HP: 55 Defense: 17
Strength: 23 Resistance: 10
Skill: 26* Build: 11
Speed: 23 Aid: 14
Luck: 12 Movement: 8
2nd Play :
(Lv 20 Paladin)
HP: 57 Defense: 17
Strength: 22 Resistance: 12
Skill: 24 Build: 11
Speed: 24* Aid: 14
Luck: 12 Movement: 8
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MARCUS ::
- A paladin serving House Pherae. A skilled veteran.

Recruit :
Joins in Chapter 11 (E) / 12 (H).
Support Availability :
Eliwood, Merlinus, Lowen, Harken, Isadora
Growth Rate :
HP 65%, Str 30%, Ski 50%, Spd 25%, Luk 30%, Def 15%, MDef 35%
Promotes to : Already Promoted
"Thanks are wasted on me. I merely do my duty."

Koji's Comments :
[6/10]
Hmm...why do I even bother commenting about him? Don't get me wrong, Marcus
isn't REALLY that bad, unlike how majority of players just loathe him, but you
can't escape from the fact that he is nothing spectacular either. His HP
suffers the most, and the rest of his stats, more or less, just average. You
can try to cross your fingers and hope at least one of his stats maxes-out,
but it will probably never happen (okay, maybe Skill). However, if you JUST
love Marcus and must have him in your final party, take my advice and let him
warm the side-bench for the first couple of missions after he appears. Do not
even think of using him. Marcus is a total exp-hog and it's just no good letting
him have the kills for the early part of the game.

1st Play :
(Lv 16 Paladin)
HP: 39 Defense: 12
Strength: 19 Resistance: 14
Skill: 24 Build: 11
Speed: 16 Aid: 14
Luck: 13 Movement: 8
2nd Play :
(Lv 20 Paladin)
HP: 42 Defense: 13
Strength: 23 Resistance: 15
Skill: 23 Build: 11
Speed: 15 Aid: 14
Luck: 15 Movement: 8
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LOWEN ::
- A knight in service to House Pherae. A fresh recruit.

Recruit :
Joins in Chapter 11 (E) / 12 (H).
Support Availability :
Rebecca, Marcus, Eliwood, Harken, Isadora
Growth Rate :
HP 90%, Str 30%, Ski 30%, Spd 30%, Luk 30%, Def 40%, MDef 35%
Promotes to : Paladin

"If the stomach is empty, empty too, lies the heart. Remember?"

Koji's Comments :
[7/10]
Plain and dull, that's Lowen. Makes me wonder what Rebecca sees in him. Lowen
has the potential to become a good Paladin, but that is IF you are lucky. He
usually ends up just above-average, so you are mostly better off sticking with
either Sain or Kent. However, Lowen does get really high HP and Defense, giving
him the ability to pass off as a tanker. Other than that, that's all there is
to Lowen (I told ya he was boring). And oh ya, he seriously needs a hair-cut.

Iggy's Comments :
[7/10]
Lowen is a rather neglected unit. At first, he doesn't seem too good, but
you'll soon realize his stats are really good. His HP, Speed, and Defense
should max easily, making him very difficult to take down. His Resistance is
also the second best for a paladin (with Marcus being best). He also
has the highest constitution out of all of the paladins. There really isn't
much to comment on; his stats are just really rounded out, with some shining
areas.

Anwar's Comments :
[8/10]
First off, let me just say that in my opinion Lowen is the best Paladin in
FE7. Marcus is bad, Isadora's less than mediocre, Sain's a little too wild and
missing in some stats, Kent is balanced but needs help in Luck and sometimes
Defense, and finally, Lowen wins over Kent because even though his Strength,
Skill and Speed aren't great like Kent's , they're still good. Lowen has nice
Luck, Defense, and Resistance, which are Kent's weaknesses. Also, Lowen having
more Con than Kent, allow more free use of heavier weapons. Assuming you get
him to a level 20 Cavalier, expect all his stats to be in double digits by
promotion (though maybe Resistance being 1 or 2 points off). I like to support
him with Rebecca or Eliwood.

1st Play :
(Lv 20 Paladin)

Wow, Female Paladin! Double-wow, slightly better than Marcus...no wait, that
isn't good. Isadora starts as a level 1 Paladin and you may think she still
got 19 more levels to proof her worth, but chances are, you will end up being
disappointed. She may sometimes get such poor stats that even Marcus could
beat her, except Speed, that is. Her speed is what shines though, and it is a
good thing it does, because her Build (aka Constitution) is pathethic for a
Paladin. Use her if you want as she can be overall decent at its best, but
there are just better candidates that you can choose from, period.

[8/10]
Oswin is probably this game's best tanker, along with Hector. His Defense can
get so high that you will be laughing whenever an enemy deal zero damage to
him. Add in a big amount of HP and good Resistance, and Oswin is seriously
a worthwhile unit to use. But since he is a General, he has only mediocre
Movement range and he might prove too be a little too slow in battle (like
reaching the battle scene when everyone else have finish off the enemies).
Well, 'slow and steady, wins the race', but that does not always apply, at
least not in this game.
PS: I just like the way Oswin is able to 'tame' Serra in their supports.

Comments :
[7.5/10]
In my opinion, Wil deserves some credits for being a good Archer. Rebecca
may be better, but her stat growths are a little shaky, therefore rather
unpredictable, and may result in ending up inferior to Wil. Wil is more
of a 'stable' Archer in my opinion, so you can't really go wrong with his
stats, as long as you level him up diligently. His drawback well, is probably
his personality. Wil is kind of a plain guy, but he still makes a better
partner for Rebecca than 'some' other guy (Lowen, shoo). Give Wil a try, you
won't be disappointed...I hope.

Koji's Comments :
[9/10]
Arguably the best Archer in the game, Rebecca is also probably one of the best
dodgers as well. From my experience, enemies love to pick her as their target
since she is like a sitting duck in melee, but they rarely do hit her anyway.
Rebecca's glaring weakness is her low defenses, and while she can successfully
evade most attacks, always keep her behind lines, just to play safe. If she
has to venture out, tag her along with a support-partner, it can do wonders~
RebeccaxWil is great, but Raven/Dart can do the job too...or even Lowen. -_-
And since Rebecca is cute, and me being biased, it is more than enough reason
for me to warrant her a high rating. :P

Iggy's Comments :
[9.5/10]
She is THE best sniper you'll ever come across. She'll max out, or come close
to, in nearly every stat. Her ability to dodge is amazing, although
occasionally, enemies do manage to hit her. She's deadly with support from the
lovely Nino, and...that Mercenary; Raven. Out of all the 3 Snipers you can
get, she's the only one that will be good.

Anwar's Comments :
[9.5/10]
I share Iggy's optimistic view here. In comparision to Wil, Rebecca trades
some Defense for crazy Skill and Speed. She's very useful against magic (I had
her max out Resistance once), can dodge anything you throw at her, and
Strength, Skill, Speed, and Luck will all be in their twenties, close to maxing
out if they don't get there. Paired up with Nino she forms half of the 'Teenage
Girl Wrecking Ball Duo' (which I uses a lot myself). I'm not going to even
gripe about her Defense, because at least it's not in the low range of Serra,
Lucius, and Priscilla. Anyway, you'd have to use a really high accuracy weapon
to hit her. If you're having a little trouble leveling her up, pair her with
Lowen. One of my favorite units.

Like it or not, Rath is the only choice if you intend of using a Nomad.
Fortunately, Rath is anything but bad. Although not what I would call a
'kick-ass' character, he is still pretty useful in battles, with his high
Strength, Speed and HP to prove it. A good candidate to pair up with Lyn, and
as a man of a few words, Rath let his bow (or sword) do most of the talking

My favorite Pegasus Knight! *glee* Florina has great Speed growth, along
with pretty good Skill & Luck growths. Compared to her other Peg-Knight
sisters, she loses out a bit in the Strength department, hampering her
usefulness slightly. She is still a good attacker though, especially for
slaying enemy mages. Florina is a bit frail too, so make sure you know
where you are making her charge into. All in all, she is just plain
good, plus the point that she and Hector makes a cute couple. :P

Another good Pegasus Knight, Fiora comes a little later than Florina, but
there is still more than sufficient time to train her. She should get better
Resistance compared to Florina, but lesser Luck. It's basically a toss up
between the two of them, though you can always use both (duh). Crap, since
they are all so hot...erm I mean, good, just use the one you think looks

The last of the Peg Knight trio, this little lass is one expensive unit!
Despite the hefty cost though, Farina is a worthwhile character, and without
her, you will never be able to use the Pegasus Triangle Attack (not like it
matters anyway). I have heard lots of good things about how Farina can far
surpass either Florina or Fiora in term of stats, but I have yet to see that
happening in my game... Nevertheless, Farina is still an awesome unit. Give
her a Delphi Shield, and she is near unstoppable!

In my honest opinion, Erk is actually quite good, contrary on how most
remarked that he is not on par with his other fellow Mages. His Defense, or
Luck growth may not look promising, but his other stats usually grow nicely.
Who cares if Erk might not match up with Nino or Pent? What matters most is
that Erk does his job as a Mage pretty well; able to blow up almost anything
he faces within two hits, and not forgetting the fact that he is able to dodge
majority of what's thrown at him. Seriously, Erk should not be underestimated.
If he does have a major flaw, it got to be his name. ERK!

Pent arrives promoted, which might make you think 'yuck' straight out. But
then you look at his stats and see how good they are! He's got all the
benefits of a Sage and even makes up for their weak-spots in areas like
Defense. However, he practically gains nothing from his level-ups, and
therefore loses his chance at cementing a spot in your battle team. He does
start very nice with weapon levels though ('A' Anima, 'A' Stave). Use him on
chapters where magic would prove effective good, but don't make him a regular.

Koji's Comments :

Nino looks like your typical brat, but appearance can be deceiving, and this
girl takes that saying to greater heights. Other than HP & Defense, Nino's
growths are downright fabulous, and possess great potential in maxing out
many of her stats. The downside is that she comes out quite late into the
game, and starts off as a low-levelled weakling Mage too. It will prove to
be quite a task to level her up from there, but the rewards may well worth
the trouble. If you find it too much of a hassle, stick to Erk or Pent then.
A very good contender to use the Afa's Drop on.

Iggy's Comments :
[10/10]
Nino is going to be your best Mage, despite the fact that she comes in so
late. She maxes out Speed, Skill, and Resistance, and usually gets high
Defense, Luck, and Strength! Even though her constitution doesn't even allow
her to use a firebook without losing evade and speed before promotion, she
won't be that easy to hit anyway. I usually throw her into a group of enemies
and watch her obliterate them. She's also very cute. ^^

What do you know? As annoying as Serra is, she is actually quite useful! It
may take quite a while to max her levels out while she is a Sister, but
doing so may get you a valuable unit in time to come. A top-notch healer,
and pretty good fighter too, once she get her Bishop class. Her Defense and
HP growth leave much to be desired, but her solid Speed and Luck make up for
that. However, if you want a more dedicated light magic-user, you may find
Lucius more handy instead. Unless you use Serra to battle a lot, her Light
Magic rating will not get high enough, thus unable to use the more 'complex'
spells. Well, not like those 'A' or 'S' grade Light-spells rock anyway.

There you go, the first Light-Magic user you will be getting in this game.
Lucius is a pretty man (no joke) whose Magic, Speed and Resistance can go
sky-rocketing, making him really cut out as a good offensive unit. He would
have been the best magic-using unit, if not for some flaws. His HP, Luck
and Defense is a reason for you to panic. You can't just simply throw Lucius
into the middle of a horde of melee-attackers and hope he emerges victorious.
Yah, he would probably dodge his way out of it...but still! One plus-point is
that when he promotes to Bishop, his Staff rating jumps from nothing to
C-grade! (no fair, Serra's Light only skips to D -_-). Lucius is good, but
definitely not a neccessary unit. And I usually pick Serra over him, heh.

Cheesy. Renault is practically overshadowed by Serra or Lucius, making him
very inferior when compared. Sure, he comes high-levelled and with an awesome
stave, though darn late in the game. For a Bishop, Renault's Magic is like
utter crap. However, he still is a decent healer, but you can do much better
with Serra/Lucius. Heck, you may even want to use Athos as your healer, better
than wasting one unit-slot on Renault. Use him if you want, just don't expect

Cute Prissy! Priscilla here, is the only playable Troubadour you got in this
game, and good thing she is good! As a Trobadour, she gets better Movement
rate than any foot-healer, as well as really high Aid, enough to rescue
nearly anybody. She is a frail one though, and is best kept a safe distance
away from the enemies, at least before becoming a Valkyrie. It is advisable
to promote her as soon as possible, since she can double up as a mage, and
quite nicely too. Don't weigh her down with the big spells though, I find
her much more useful with just the lighter tomes. Give her an Angelic-Robe,
and she can surely hold her own battles well.

Koji's Comments :

Canas...the dorky one, hehe. He is the only Shaman you will be getting, but
only accessible if you go through the Chapter 16 side-story. So, is he worth
the trouble? Heck, yeah! Honestly, Canas does not have the best stat-growths,
but because he IS your sole unit who can use Dark-magic, his rating goes up.
It's undeniable that his spells rock, and may even prove to be a bit too
overpowering as well. As for Canas himself, let's just say he is...alright.
Overall a very lethal unit, but not indispensable (not like anyone is :P).
And by the way, anyone agrees he kind of resembles ChoHakkai of G.Saiyuki?

Anwar's Comments :
[8/10]
Canas would be excellent, seeing how he's got a choice of Dark-magic, but his
problem is he's too darn balanced, and it ruins most of the goods of ancient
magic. First of all, they're heavy. Canas doesn't have great Con, and though
his Speed is good, toss him a Luna and most people will be getting two hits on
this guy. Dark-magic is strong; Canas isn't weak, but he doesn't get enough
Magic to be able to kill everything in sight within a battle, which is annoying
cause he needs to make up for that lack of Speed. His one reliable stat is
Resistance, while his Defense and Luck are okay, but in the end, he's just too
balanced. If he'd just sacrifice a teeny-weeny bit of Resistance for some Magic
or Speed... However, supports ease the problem a little.

Guy proves to be a very fast and accurate unit, from the time he is recruited,
and to the end, provided he is properly levelled-up. Unfortunately, other than
his Speed and Skill being top-notched, his other stats are just above-average.
Despite that, Guy is not a total loss. He can be a reliable fighter once he is
promoted, and even if his Defenses can remain horribly low, he can dodge well
(and I mean, VERY well). Funny is, his HP can get pretty high too, surprising
for a Myrmidon. Guy's criticals are what make him notable, so trust him to
pull lots of those flashy slice-dicing actions on your foes. Sweet~ :D

The sword-demon. You basically can't go wrong with a guy with that kind of
alias. But perhaps, that title is quite overrated as well, at least on Karel.
He is just not as uber-strong as he was described to be. Karel is still a
considerbly good fighter though, and Swordmaster = good. Guy has more
potential, but Karel is much easier to handle, as he will still pretty much
remain a good unit, no matter how bad you screwed up with his stat-levelling.

Very useful like his lovely sister; Priscilla, Raven is one heck of a
powerhouse! Given the right weapon for the situation, he can wipe out a
bunch of enemies with little difficulty. But like most characters, he does
come with his set of flaws. Raven lacks the Resistance, so he may not be all
the best when up against spell-casters. He is one of the only two Heroes you

Harken, Raven would seem like the natural choice to pick between them.

Dorcas is what you would call; decent at its best. He grows like your typical

really don't like about him is that he gets real-little Speed until it isn't

This dude here knows nothing but fighting. And luckily, he is good at it.
Bartre isn't much different from Dorcas, except he trade a little of Skill,
for more Speed. For once, a dumbo like him made a better choice. More Speed
would means more chances at double-attacking, and coupled with Bartre's
Strength, not many foes would survive a single duel with him. Well, he do
misses once in a while, but surely that isn't so bad of a problem... :)

If you need an axe-user, Dart is probably all you need (other than Hector,
that is)! Sure, I am not a big fan of axe-wielders, but you can't hide the
fact that Dart is a powerful combatant. He got lots of Strength and Speed,
hence Dart will be crushing everyone with his dual-attacks. It is notable too,
that he gets to critical more often than other axe-fighters, which is a good
thing. Skill is a problem here, so you may want to get him a support with
Rebecca, Wil or Farina to get the extra boost of Accuracy he need.

Anwar's Comments :
[9/10]
Imagine a Swordmaster with an axe...now go have some fun. :D Dart, along with
being a much better Berserker than Hawkeye, is ridiculously fun to use. You've
got to enjoy the one-hit KOs, combined with crit-rates in the teens/twenties
and excellent accuracy, especially with an axe. Awesome Strength, Skill, and
Speed, gives Dart a slight advantage over Swordmasters in my favor, since they
don't have as much power, and he'll get so fast, your best attempts to thwart
him with heavy-axes and annoy his slightly light build for an axeman will all
fail. The reason he isn't perfect is mainly because as a Pirate, he's a little
boring. His Speed develops excellently, but it starts low; his main attacking
weapon puts that speed down to 3, so he can dodge nuthin'. Now Dart is a real
example of someone who can completely turn around with some level-ups and a
promotion.

Unlike other pre-promoted units you can get, Hawkeye actually have tons of HP,
and he may even max it out too! Sadly, he probably won't match up with a well-

His forte lies in his overwhelming speed growth, allowing him to
nimbly evade practically almost anything. As an Assassin, he does fight

Jaffar is seriously made to be an Assassin, no doubt about it. His Luck may
remain low, though his other stats will be good. But 15% for Strength growth
rate? Fret not, as Jaffar starts off at 19 Strength, and only needs ONE more
point to max it out anyway. He is actually just a mere sword-swinging fighter,
but it's his high critical rate and deadly one-hit kill ability that makes him
such a dangerous unit. Just equip him with Killer Swords, and even the
strongest foe may not stand against his deadly swordplay.

Iggy's Comments :
[7.5/10]
Jaffar is a great unit, but he has some serious flaws. Although he ends up
with the best stats for an assassin, there are still some definite problems.
First, his avoidance can be amazing when going up against Axe wielders and
Sword-users but he just seems to get hit all the time for me by those stupid
pegasi. Otherwise, he's good. Plus, he's one of the few that can support that

Quite an underrated character in this game, Nils & Ninian do deserve
some credits. As most players would know by now, Nils & Ninian share the
same stats, thus they can actually be treated as one unit.
Okay, Nils/Ninian has the ability to make a character move again once every
turn...so? Well, that IS useful. They can level up my healers quickly by
giving them more turns to heal ally thus gaining exp. They allow my thieves
to do 'hit & run' techniques and let them cover more distance for stealing
purposes. Get the picture?
And about Nils & Ninian being moving target-practices? Just throw in an
Angel Robe and they should be able to survive whatever is being thrown at
them for a turn, dodging like there's no tomorrow. If that's not enough,
they got those neato rings which make useful supporting tools for your army.
I would have given them higher rating, if only they could just fight. DARN!

If you have played Fire Emblem: Fuuin no Tsurugi (FE6), you will know how BAD
Merlinus was in that game. In this game, Merlinus is back, but he is in his
demoted form! Not that it is a totally bad thing though. Despite being
seriously handicapped by not being able to EVEN move, Merlinus can actually
gain Levels easily. He gains a Level each time he managed to survive a Chapter.
He got good growths, so once he reaches a pretty-high Level, he should be able
to dodge most enemies' attacks, even if he can't move. Once Merlinus reaches
Level 20, he automatically promotes to the FE6's Transporter, and should have
gotten really good stats; like maxing Speed and Luck at 30. How's that?
But, there IS something that the Merlinus in FE6 can do, which this Merlinus
can't. In FE6, surplus items that you buy or gain can be send straight to
storage with OR without Merlinus in the battlefield. This time, stuffs will
only be sent to storage if Merlinus is on the battlefied. DUH! Well, I guess
you can't get the best out of both worlds...

Gray-beard Athos, what is there to say about him? He is just your typical
'come-out-late-but-is-very-good' character. Taking into consideration that he
already has his level maxed out when you get him, there is absolutely no need
to worry about stat-growing. Athos comes with a nice set of stats (HP sucks
though), and he basically got 'S' rating for every Magic-type, including Stave!
But since he only appears in the last chapter, there is just so little you can
do with him. Sheesh~!

CJayC:
Well, without him, I won't have bothered to put up this faq. And most
importantly, every other faq's credits have him mentioned, LoL.

Nintendo/Intelligent Systems:
Many thanks for creating this wonderful game!
Had me wasted weeks of my life playing this (it's a compliment).

Iggy Koopa:
Many thanks for providing extra comments for the characters in this FAQ.
It was an unexpected joint-work, but it was most definitely welcomed.

Anwar :
Yet another unexpected additional help for comments. Tends to get a bit
long-winded with his comments (lol) but nice work nevertheless.

FireLizard:
For kinda letting me used his Fire Emblem's Character Guide as my source
of reference. Please check out his various faqs for FE too!

Dark Gaia:
I referred the characters' growth rate from his Fire Emblem site @
http://www.angelfire.com/games4/fesealsword/
Visit his site too, it's really neat...!

And finally to the many others who send me your kind feedbacks via email, and
the people who actually took your time to read this FAQ. Thank you!
