AS IF IT IS NOT WORTH ON FRONT COVER PASSION, INTEGRITY & APNAPAN

Dear All,

We are all devastated to watch the horrifying images of Rohingya community that make
headlines on social media. One does not need to be a human rights activist to condemn. For me
as a person, it is also acceptance of the disillusionment that I have lived with so long as I have
attended the community events held at Australian Asian Association House to celebrate Aung
San Suu Kyi’s birthday in Perth for many years. She was the voice of under privileged however,
her deafening silence on genocide, right under her leadership is beyond any rationale and an
insult to the Nobel Prize awarded to her.
As Australians, we need to stand up against the violations and this is the right time to ask that
our foreign minister and defence minister immediately suspend any agreements to support the
military power in Myanmar. The $66 million pledged to support mass murderers need to go to
governments who respect human lives. Dr. Ameer Ali in Opinion published in today’s West
Australian is right to raise that this genocide is the perfect opportunity for terrorists to recruit
more like them and we should not be a party to that.
There are a number of events, protests and online campaigns currently running to support the
innocent victims of this genocide. In Perth, Omair Choudhry has taken the initiative to organize a
rally on 16th Sept at Parliament House so please join him. We are also in receipt of the letter
written by Australian Federation of Islamic Councils, Dr. Rteib Jnaid. Do not sit silent. RAISE
YOUR VOICE NOW.

URGENT NEED FOR ACCOMODATION & EMPLOYMENT

A few days back, the government announced that the 100 refugees living in community housing
across Australia will have 3 weeks to find a job and housing. There are currently 16 refugees
living in the Perth community that need adequate housing and jobs. prior to this decisions, the
refugees were on a visa that prevented them from working therefore they have little to no
savings and are only on Centrelink benefits the give them $200 a fortnight, which will also stop
soon. What we are after is anyone who knows of employment opportunities, even small jobs
such as washing dishes, and/or knows of any housing that can accommodate these people. Your
help is really appreciated, as they have little English skills and aren't trained to adapt to the
Australian lifestyle just yet.

We have also received message from one of the members who can help in running workshops
for people under similar circumstances every Saturday around Vic Park. What we have been
thinking is that if we have another two volunteers to take turns, it would be great. Let us know if
you are willing to assist.
