A-Hi, .How are you?

B-Hi, .. Im fine thanks, How do you do?

A-Im great! Ive got a new job as tour leader in the New Cathedral.
B- Really? Thats seems fantastic! But, you dont know about the history of the New
Cathedral.
A-That was in the past. Ive been reading a lot about the New Cathedral, let me tell you
a little bit.
B-Ok, try to get my attention.
A-The churchs name is Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, but commonly its
called by people as the New Cathedral of Cuenca.
B-Oh, interesting, but who designed the New Cathedral?
A-Well the plan of the Cathedral was drawn up by Juan Bautista Sthiele, but he was
following the guidelines given by Bishop Len Garrido.
B-How long did the construction of the church last? And what materials were used for
doing it?
A-The construction works started in 1985 and lasted for almost a century. Most of the
materials that were used were adquired locally; big stones were picked out from the river
banks. The pink marble used for the floor was brought from Carraca (Italy). This building
combines many architecture styles, but Romanesque revival is predominant.
B-The history of the Cathedral has been so interesting, but what can you tell me about the
beautiful glass windows there are?
A-The beautiful stained glass windows are made of antique glass and colours of several
ranges, and they were created by Guillermo Larrazbal.
B-And my last question is: What happened to the domes of the Cathedral?
A-Which domes? Maybe youre confused.
B-No, Im not confused. Its towers are truncated due to a calculation error of the architect.
If they have been raised to their planned height, the foundation of this church to the
Immaculate Conception, would not have been able to bear the weight. In spite of the
architects immense mistake, the skyline of its domes has become a symbol for the city.
A-Oh, I didnt know that!
Well my dear friend, if you dont want to get fired soon, you will have to read much more
than before.
B-Thanks for the advice guy, Ill do it.
A-I wish you success in you new job!
B-Thank you, good look !
