Accuracy vs Precision
What, they are NOT the same?!?!

Goals for today

Determine the difference between accuracy and precision

Review graphing

Accuracy Precision

How close the measurement How repeatable your result was

comes to the true value

You want to be
BOTH PRECISE
AND ACCURATE!

The lab!

1. (not on sheet) Record room temperature on document.

2. Place an empty 10.0 mL grad. Cylinder on the balance. Zero the
balance
3. Remove grad. Cylinder
4. Add 1.0 mL of water to empty grad. Cylinder. Place on balance
and record
5. Repeat steps 2-3 until 10 mL of water has been reached

Graphing Review: All linear graphs require

Title (Y variable vs X variable)

Axis labels
Units (in title and on axis)
Data points circled (uncertainty)
Best fit line (linear function following y=ax+b)
Points for slope calculations
