Dearest Kindergarten Parents,

The first 3 days of school has gotten off to a fabulous start! This year is sure to be magical. Please
make note of the following procedures and announcements:

DAILY SCHEDULE: Our day begins at 7:45 and ends at 2:35. Children may arrive at school no earlier
than 7:15. The traffic before and after school will get less congested as everyone settles into a
routine.

MEAL MONEY: Please remind your child to turn in lunch money first thing in the morning (Ill remind
them also until they get into the habit.) Any money sent should be inside an envelope labeled with
your childs given name, my name, and its purpose. If you like, you can set up an account online at
www.myschoolbucks.com to pay for several school-related expenses (lunches, yearbooks, field trips,
after school, etc.)

LUNCH TERMINOLOGY: In order to help your child learn the different types of lunch and to ensure
Im ordering the correct number each morning, I would like for you to use these terms at home. School
lunch is used when purchasing what the lunchroom is serving (this includes a milk that your child must
get unless there is a milk allergy/restriction). Home lunch is used when eating/drinking something
brought from home (some children confuse this with a snack especially if its sent in a lunchbox) and
nothing is purchased from the lunchroom. Milk only is used when eating something brought from home
but needing to purchase a milk from school. In the past, Ive assumed any child who brought a drink with
their home lunch didnt need to purchase a milk from school; however, some parents allow their child to
have 2 drinks with lunch. If this is the case, please emphasize this at home since I have no way of
knowing.

BREAKFAST: Breakfast is served each morning in the gym. Please stress to your child if they would like
to eat breakfast, they must get it before coming to the classroom. I have no way of knowing who needs
to get breakfast and who doesnt.

REST TIME: Each child will need a towel for rest/quiet time. Please send this each day with your childs
name clearly marked somewhere on their towel (the tag is sufficient.) Lack of storage space prevents
anything other than a towel to be used and will be kept in your childs backpack so that it can be
laundered at your convenience.

PLAY CLOTHES: School is an active and very busy place. The children make lots of decisions about
projects they want to participate in. Paint, paper mache, glue, etc., can ruin clothing no matter how
careful we are. Please be mindful of what your child wears to school as we dont want to inhibit their fun
and learning. Also, to help your child become independent and self-reliant, we encourage them to dress in
clothing which is easy to get in and out of during restroom breaks.

FRUIT BREAK: We will have a snack time during centers and your child may choose to eat this at
anytime during this part of our day. Please send a healthy daily snack consisting of fresh fruit, dried
(over)
fruit, crackers, cheese or fresh vegetables. All items need to be ready to eat. Please do not send juice
boxes or drinks of any kind for a snack; water is available at all times for the children. Also, please dont
worry if you forget to send in a snack, I always have something for them to eat in the class.

BIRTHDAYS: Birthdays are very special days and will not be overlooked in our classroom. If you would
like to send in cupcakes on your childs birthday, please provide enough for 20 students.

FRIDAY FOLDER: The last school day of each week your child will bring home a folder which contains
important information. The folder has a leave at home section, a bring back section and a spot for you
to initial. Please read all the information carefully and initial the line on the corresponding date. Return
any required papers in your childs folder the next school day. You may also place lunch money, notes,
excuses, etc. in this folder when returning it, as I check each one every Monday morning.

TRANSPORTATION: During the school year if your child will be going home a different way, you must
let me know ASAP! Feel free to send me a written note, call the office, or email me with that
information. However, if you decide to email and do not receive a reply from me, please assume I havent
received it and call the office. This is extremely important!

LABEL EVERYTHING: Please make sure you have clearly marked your childs name on everything they
bring to school (backpacks, lunch boxes, jackets, etc.) so if something is misplaced or accidently
swapped, it can easily be returned to the right owner.

EMAIL ADDRESS: I would like for every parent (mom, dad, even grandparents if they like) to be on our
classroom email distribution list. Please send me an email from the address you would like for me to use
(feel free to send from multiple addresses if you like.) Being able to copy your email from a message is
easier, and more likely to be saved correctly, than if I entered them manually. My email is
sajones@auburnschools.org

CURRICULUM NIGHT: To help you become familiar with our specific classroom routines, curriculum,
class procedures and plans for the year, AEEC is having Open House/Curriculum Night on Thursday,
August 17th at 5:40pm. This is an important meeting and I hope everyone will try to attend
(parents/grandparents/caregivers only please.) There will be a brief PTO for all parents in the Tigers
Den first and then the meeting will move to the individual classrooms afterwards.

With much respect,

S. Jones
