(b) In a pin jointed 4bar mechanism ABCD, the lengths of various links are

fixed and the angle BAD=135". If the velocity of B is 1.8mls in the

clockwise direction, find the velocity and acceleration of the midpoint of
BC, angular velocity and angular acceleration of link cB and cD.

LZ. (a) A multiple disc clutch, steel on bronze is to transmit 7.36kw_at 450'rpm.
The inner rad.ius of the contact is 40 mm and the outer radius 90 mm.
p = O.l. The maximum allowable pressure is 3.5 bar. Determine the \/
total number of discs, average pressures axial force required and
maximum pressure.

O) A cam rotating clockwise at a uniform speed of 200 r:p.m. is required to

. move a. roller follower with .a uniform and equal acceleration and
retardation on both the outward and return strokbs. The angle of aspent,
the angle of dwell @etw.een ascent and descent) and the angle of descent
is 120o, 60o, and 90" respectively. The follower dwells for the rest of cam
rotation. The least radius of the cam is 50 mm, the lift of the follower is
25 mm and the diameter of the roller is 10mm. Draw the cam profile and
' find the maximum:velocity and acceleration of the follower during the
outstroke.

same plane. The masses are 12kg, 10kg, 18kg and lbkg respectively and
their radii of rotations aie 40mm, 50mm and 60mm and 30mm. The
" angular position of masses B, C and D are 60o, 135o and,270p from the
mass A. Find the magnitude and position of the balancing mass at a
radius of 100 mm.

and the ratio of any two successive amplitudes.

(b) (r) Derive an expression for the frequency of ffee torsional vibrations
for a shaft fixed at one end and carrying a load on the free end. (10)

(ii) A shaft 25 mm diameter and 0.5 m long carries a mass of 2 kg at its

mid point. The d.ensity of shaft material = 40 x 103 kg/ma and
E = 200 GN/m2. Assume shaft is freely supported. Calculate the
