4.1 Starting the program

The CIVIL Design setup adds a new menu CIVIL Design in the selected CAD and an icon of the
program on the desktop which allows to start the program and the selected CAD.
1. Double-click on the CIVIL Design icon to start the program. AutoCAD will automatically
be started and the CIVIL Design drop-down menu with all the specific commands of the software,
loaded;
From the version 10 of CIVIL Design, the program start from its icon makes the following procedures:
1. At first start after the setup, a procedure allows to migrate, in the current version,
some settings from a previous version of CIVIL Design (at least version 8) if its still installed.

The user could select the source version, which file types, which folders for migration to the new
version. Note that its possible to select also another folder as source version from which you can
transfer the settings.
2. After the possible migrate step, another procedure checks if any update exists for the
current version. If there is an update, the procedure will ask if it can install. By default, this
operation will be repeated every 15 days. The user can change the time laps e, between an
update check and the next , by setting a CIVIL Design variable (see 4.10). If the variable
value is imposed 0, the procedure of update check will be disabled. For a more detailed
description of the update procedure, see 4.15.
3. After the CAD opening, select the only item available on the CIVIL Design menu
Initialization. With this command some of the CIVIL Design layers and line types will
automatically be created, and the menu items provided by the software solution you have
purchased will be made available.
The active environment is by default the Global object Plan. To work on a different kind of object
(Profiles, Sections) the chosen object must be selected and made active.
You can access the sub-menus described in the following chapters, from the main menu.

The arrow next to a drop-down menu item indicates that there is a sub-menu; sub-
menus are extensively treated in the following chapters.

4.2 Set Current Frame/Object command (Selezobj)

With this command you can select an object (called frame) by pointing the cursor on it. Making an
object active you make a calibrated local reference system (UCS) current, and all commands relative
to its environment (Plan, Profiles, Sections) will also be act ivated.
The Plan object (or environment) is act ivated by clicking anywhere in the model space. The relative
UCS is that of AutoCAD;
The Profile object (or environment) is activated by clicking on the frame of one of the created
profiles. The relative UCS has the chainage of the alignment as X -coordinate and the alignment
elevation as Y-coordinate;
The Section object (or environment) is act ivated by clicking on one of the section frames you have
previously created. The relative UCS has the distance from the axis as X-coordinate and the actual
elevation as Y-coordinate;

Format: Selezobj:
Select the object <RETURN for general plan frame (WCS)>:

If the selected object is not a frame or is an incomplete e ntity, the following error message will be
reported:
Selected object is not a frame!
or
Incomplete object!

If the object has been correctly selected, all the relevant data will be displayed on the screen menu
(Descobj command).
If the CDVARZO CIVIL Design variable is equal to 1, after selecting the object an automatic zoom will
be performed on the active frame (Zoomobj command).
By pressing Return, the General Plan (or the world object) will be activated.

4.3 Deformed view command (Vistadef)

This command performs scale views of Profiles and Sections, and lengths and elevations memorized
on the frame, according to the ratio between the scales (see Modify frame data command).
It will thus be possible to see the object in its printing/plotting scale, actually keeping it in the real
dimensions.

4.4 Manager Command (Cdmanager)

This command is a tool that allows you to have a complete picture of the alignments, profiles and
sections included in a .DWG file.
The tool set displayed is a tree-structure list through which it is possible to
move easily and rapidly from one design element to another. By clicking on
the icons you can make the selected object and the global object active
and zoom on a single element. Specific icons allow you to have an
automatic zoom active and to have a deformed view of the element
perform.
By double clicking on the appropriate icon you can select an axis. Clicking
your mouse right button you can run other commands relative to the
selected element.

Format: Cdmanager

4.5 Edit Command (Cdedit)

The Editor command is a tool set by which you can modify:
1. An alignment or a profile already created and you can view if the design element satisfies its
norm. The commands acts only on alignments and profiles with dynamic property, setted by
Dynamic Management (cdgestdin)
2. A net in pressure, but only with the show of data and calculations (see Aqueducts)
3. A sewer net, but only with with the show of data and calculations (see Sewers)

By the command you can check the selected alignment compliance with a norm and, if it
dynamic, you can modify it in real time using the tables with the geometric parameters.
If you select a non road alignment, the checks will be not executed and it will be possible only to
change the geometri parameters.

4.6 Activate-Deactivate ToolTip Command (Cdttp)

This command allows you activate or deactivate the visualization of tooltips containing information on
the object indicated by the AutoCAD pointer. This tool is already widely used within the Windows
work environment: as regards the particular CIVIL Design environment you are supplied information
concerning alignments, profiles, sections, polylines, etc. as soon as the pointer rests on an AutoCAD
entity for a few tenths of a second.
If the entity was created through CIVIL Design commands all the important information will be
supplied: which are the name and length of an alignment, the parametric law connected to a polyline,
etc. If the entity was not created with this program only the pertinent layer will be displayed.
Format: Cdttp

4.7 Printer setup command (Impst)

This command enables to modify the settings for printing with CIVIL Design.
In particular, the following items can be set up:

6
Main Menu

an optional heading to be printed on every sheet;

the parallel port to which the printer is connected;
the number of lines per each page;
the top and bottom margins of pages (number of lines);
the printing address (file or paper).

Format: Impst

All settings can be modified from the Print settings dialog box.

4.8 CIVIL Design variables command (Setvarcd)

Likewise AutoCAD, CIVIL Design has a series of system variables; their values can be set, modified or
listed by using the Setvarcd command corresponding to the CIVIL Design variables pull-down menu
item. The setting of such variables will take effect on the commands of CIVIL Design, influencing their
functions.

Format: Setvarcd

The variables are set in the dialog box that opens up when the co mmand in the main menu is
launched. What the variables are about is quite intuitive.

4.9 Dynamic management (cdgestdin)

With this command you can dec ide which alignments will be dynamic and what does it mean a
dynamic behavior.
Here you find all the settings about the dynamic updates.
There are two tables: the first one allows you to decide which alignment you want to get dynamic.
The second one list all the dynamic updates you want to activate.

You can switch to dynamic mode as many times as you need. No data will be lost.
The conversion works even on alignment created with older releases.

4.10 Support Menu

This menu gathers a set of general utility commands.

4.1.1 Interactive Guide (Helpcd)

The menu item launches the CIVIL Design on-line help.

4.1.2 Information About Command (Infocd)

This command allows you to visualize the Information dialog box about the version, the license code
and the list of the software solutions installed.

4.1.3 www.digicorpingegneria.com
Its the hyperlink to www.digicorpingegneria.com.

4.1.4 Online updating(cdup)

This command allows to automatically update the software (trough a service pack) or its restore (if a
previous update attempts didnt end successfully).

Format: cdupdate

This command opens a dialogue which warns the user to shut down Autocad to carry out the update.
Once Autocad is shut down the update will start: a progress bar will show you the update progress.
When the update is completed, the system will inform you by a notification.

Before carrying on the update, a backup of the files to be update d is performed.

Those files are saved in a subdirectory of the installation folder of the software. The name of this
backup folder shows the name of the service pack currently installed. If this folder already exists, it
will be overwritten. The backup folders name present the following format :
/ServicePack_X_BACKUP
where in the X position the number of the service pack version (installed at the time of the backup)
is written. If X is equal to 0 it means that you never update the software before.

The file "restore_info.txt" contains all the info required to the restoration, therefore
the user must be careful not to manually cancel it.
