MOBY DICK VALUE, LOYALTY

Based on the book that I have read Moby Dick, by Herman Melville, one of the values that I had
gained from this book is loyalty. The value loyalty focused mostly on Captain Ahab and his crews.
Loyalty plays an important role in this book because the crews show this value from the start till the
end of the story.

The crews were very loyal to their captain throughout his journey on the Pequod, seeking his
revenge at Moby Dick. He wishes to kill the whale as he was very furious that it took his leg. Even
though their quest on finding and killing Moby Dick is very dangerous, they still follow their
captains orders no matter what and continue to hunt it down. They put their lives in danger and they
might not see their families ever again just to fulfil their captains wish.

Next, is Starbucks loyalty to his captain. Starbucks is the longest person to be on the ship with
Captain Ahab. One day, he got a chance to kill the captain with the captains gun when he was
sleeping. He questioned himself whether he should kill the captain and get back home safely with the
rest of the crew or just leave the captain and he will kill everyone. However, he ended up not killing
the captain, because he decided that he has to serve his captain till the end.

Lastly, are Captain Ahabs private harpooners or also known as his devils by the crews. Even
though these five men looked very evil, mysterious and suspicious, they are very loyal to Captain
Ahab. They take his orders without even questioning him a bit and they will do anything in the name
of duty to him.

In a nutshell, loyalty is essential in every human being. Loyal people can become great leaders,
great commanders, or great administrators in life. If a person becomes disloyal they will be hated and
disbe-lieved by all. Therefore, if a person can practice the value of loyalty itself, they can practice
other values as well.
