ABSTRACT

The report titled Study of Generation and distribution of electric power in Thermal power
plant, Conversion of coke from coal in Coke ovens and Coal chemical plant and the
Operation of Blast Furnace in Vizag Steel Plant. The main objective of the report is to
study the various equipment provided for power and process underneath it. Also some
essential electrical ideas and facts which were learnt in due course are added at the end of
this report.

A generating station which converts heat energy obtained by the combustion of coal
in to electrical energy is known as Thermal power plant basically which works on the
principle as seen in Rankin cycle. The coal is converted in to coke by heating the prepared
coal blend charge in the coke ovens in the absence of air at a temperature of 1000 to 1500
degrees centigrade in coal chemical plant. And the iron is made in the Blast Furnaces by
smelting iron bearing materials with the help of coke and air.
