The advantages of learning in a group are:

Japanese method has been adjusted to adapt to our Western methodology of the
Jan 1-Jan 5 Christmas Break (No Lessons) Yamaha Music Education System at teacher training seminars held on a regular
basis.

Method
FEBRUARY 2018 Applying the underlying philosophy, the Yamaha method incorporates weekly
group lessons designed to give students the best beginning possible for the
Feb 19 Family Day (No Lessons) development of basic music skills. Emphasis is placed on ear training and the
development of a good rhythmic sense. A variety of activities, including singing
words and solfege, keyboard playing, sight singing, sight playing, ensemble work
and musical creativity are part of the curriculum. When younger students are
accompanies by the parent, as the parent is the essential link between the class
experience and successful practice at the home, both child and parent can share
the joy of learning music with one another.
The Yamaha Method
Philosophy MARCH 2018
The Yamaha Philosophy for music education is based on the belief that Mar 26- Mar 29 Spring/Break (No Lessons)
everyone has the potential to develop musical ability. Yamaha believes
that everyone has the capacity to create, perform and enjoy ones own
Mar 30 Mar 31 Easter Break (No Lessons)
music, and that through this joy of music one can enjoy a richer life.
APRIL 2018
In the early 1900s, a research team of excellent teachers, physicians, Apr 1-2 Easter Break (No Lessons)
psychologists and musicians were brought together to develop a new and
effective way of teaching music. Through much discussion, research, and
experimentation, a unique and remarkable education system, now
renowned as the Yamaha Music Education System evolved, the four main MAY 2018
characteristics of the Yamaha Education System are:
1. Timely instruction TBA JSAC 1 Audition & Parent Meeting
2. Comprehensive musical training May 21 Victoria Day (No Lessons)
3. Group lessons May 26 - May 27 Yamaha Grade 11
4. Systematic education program May 28 Group & Private Re-registration begins
TBA Yamaha Grade Exams
Timely Instruction: means students are trained in musical skill
according to their developmental stage in life. The material and method of
instruction is geared to the students level of physical, psychological and JUNE 2018
social development. For example, research has shown that the ears
auditory capacity develops most rapidly between the ages of four and six Jun 1 - Jun 17 Giovanni Private Concerts
and the finger muscles develop most rapidly between the ages of seven June 18 Yamaha Discount Deadline
and twelve. It is for this reason that in Primary 1, for four and five year June 10 June 11 Yamaha FSS
olds, emphasis is placed on developing the ear rather than concentrating
on only keyboard performance skills.

Comprehensive Musical Training: Yamaha not only trains its
students to be able to perform on an instrument but also develops the
fundamentals of good musicianship, such as a good aural (pitch
discrimination) and rhythmic sense. Through activities such as singing in
solfege and playing in ensembles, Yamaha develops a well-rounded
