THE GAZELLE

In our report we will talk about the gazelle, we will explain a little about its anatomy, its
locomotion, its diet, its habitat, its adaptations, its life cycle and reproduction, its behaviors,
its defenses and offenses, its enemies, this animal has something special and its
classification, the idea of this report is to learn the most important information of this animal
and its environment.

1. The Animals Name: The female gazelle name comes from the Persian word
Ghazal, which means "smart and quick."

2. Anatomy/appearance: The gazelle is an antelope, is medium, weighs between 15


kg and 30 kg, this animal has fine horns to defend itself, its head and teeth are similar
to the horse, large ears, long neck, short tail, all four legs are long , this animal has
two eyes, this animal always lives in the savannah and Africa, this animal gazelles
participate in the great annual African migration, which consists of migrating to the
forests when it is the dry season, and to the prairies when the rainy season arrives.
Gazelles travel along with wildebeests and zebras, and other animals that annually
perform this migration in which they travel the savannah while being exposed to the
danger represented by predators such as lions, cheetahs, leopards, crocodiles and
hyenas, among others.

3. Locomotion: The gazelle can run and jump very fast, its speed reaches 100km / h
and maintain a speed of 56km / h for an extended period, this animal runs too fast
to escape its predators like the leopard

4. Diet: The gazelle is herbivorous. It feeds on herbs, shrubs and all those plants that
provide liquids to combat the high temperatures of its natural environment. Also,
although in less quantity, they eat larvae and small insects. Generally the plants that
the gazelle ingests are those that at night absorb the humidity. This helps you to
spend many days without drinking, and to adapt to the hottest open areas, eat in
normal position, standing in the food chain the gazelle is a consumer and at the same
time is consumed by animals such as crocodiles, leopards and lions

often avoiding the tall grasses, they are found in the grasslands of the savannas of
Africa, but also in southwest Asia, therefore, they live in the continents of Africa and
Asia

fine and hard horns to defend itself, is an animal that is always on alert

7. Life Cycle/Reproduction: The gazelle lives approximately 10 to 12 years, the


gestation of the gazelles lasts about 6 months and each calving is of a calf. The
females move away from the herd to give birth alone. At birth the gazelles weigh a
kilo and a half approximately, and their coat is brown. The first 3 months of life are
exclusively breastfed. The mating date of the gazelle runs from September to
November. Before spring comes the small gazelles are born after about 28 weeks.
The pups weigh about 5 kilograms and develop rapidly.

8. Behavior: The gazelle is a mammal that lives in herds of more than 50 individuals,
formed by a single male and a leading adult female. The gazelle marks the territory
by secreting the preorbital gland, located in the inner corner of the eye. The gazelles
sleep little and at intervals to be attentive of their predators

are in danger of extinction. They are in danger of extinction because they are victims
of the hunt and also because they are used for human consumption.
