THE GAZELLE

1. The Animals Name: The female gazelle name comes from the Persian word
Ghazal, which means "smart and quick."

2. Anatomy/appearance: The gazelle is an antelope, is medium, weighs between 15

kg and 30 kg, this animal has fine horns to defend itself, its head and teeth are similar
to the horse, large ears, long neck, short tail, all four legs are long , this animal has
two eyes, this animal always lives in the savannah and Africa, this animal gazelles
participate in the great annual African migration, which consists of migrating to the
forests when it is the dry season, and to the prairies when the rainy season arrives.
Gazelles travel along with wildebeests and zebras, and other animals that annually
perform this migration in which they travel the savannah while being exposed to the
danger represented by predators such as lions, cheetahs, leopards, crocodiles and
hyenas, among others.

3. Locomotion: The gazelle can run and jump very fast, its speed reaches 100km / h
and maintain a speed of 56km / h for an extended period, this animal runs too fast
to escape its predators like the leopard

4. Diet: The gazelle is herbivorous. It feeds on herbs, shrubs and all those plants that
provide liquids to combat the high temperatures of its natural environment. Also,

7. Life Cycle/Reproduction: The gazelle lives approximately 10 to 12 years, the

gestation of the gazelles lasts about 6 months and each calving is of a calf. The
females move away from the herd to give birth alone. At birth the gazelles weigh a
kilo and a half approximately, and their coat is brown. The first 3 months of life are
exclusively breastfed. The mating date of the gazelle runs from September to
November. Before spring comes the small gazelles are born after about 28 weeks.
The pups weigh about 5 kilograms and develop rapidly.
