When supply fails(rain stops)
The load carried by rivers includes the rock-waste supplied by many agents
The debris is transported in various ways.
Smaller particles are carried with the stream in suspension as suspended
load. The tendency to settle is being counterbalanced by eddies. Larger
particles skip along in a series of jumps - a process known as saltation.
Pebbies roll along the bottom. Larger blocks may movealong on a layer of
pebbles Which act like ball - bearings, This mode of transportation is called
bed load
As river velocity decreases, the bed load is the first to come to rest. With
continued -slackening of the flow the larger components as of the suspended
load are dropped, followed successively by finer and finer - particles. When
the stream begins to flow more vigorously the finer materials are the first to
move on again . The proportion of finer grain sizes tends to Increase
downstream.
