STRAIN RELIEF ANTENNA WIRING CONNECTOR IN AN ELECTRONIC DEVICE

CLAIMS for US, BR, CN:

1. (Currently Amended) An electronic device (200) comprising:
a printed circuit board (501) having wire securing slots (540) along an edge of the
printed circuit board and electrical connectors (606) on a side (504) of the printed circuit
board adjacent to the edge; and
10 electronic components (602) having wires (604) extending therefrom, the wires
each passing through and being secured in a respective one of the wire securing slots
and connected to one of the electrical connectors.

2. (Cancelled) The electronic device of claim 1, wherein the wire securing slots are

15 substantially a J-shape or substantially a check design () shape.

3. (Cancelled) The electronic device of claim 1, wherein the wire securing slots are
substantially a T-shape or substantially an L- shape.

20 4. (Original) The electronic device of claim 1, wherein the electronic components


are antennas and the electrical connectors are each positioned laterally with respect to
the wire securing slots in a direction parallel to the edge of the printed circuit board.

5. (Cancelled) The electronic device of claim 4, further comprising an antenna


25 bracket (601) supporting the antennas.

6. (Original) The electronic device of claim 1, wherein the electronic device is a set
top box or gateway device, the wire securing slots are substantially a J-shape,

substantially a check design (), substantially an L-shape, or substantially a T-shape,

30 and the electronic components are antennas.

7. (Currently Amended) The electronic device of claim 1, wherein:


the electronic components are antennas;
the electronic device is a set top box or gateway device having a casing that is a
5 vertically oriented structure in which the height of the casing is greater than horizontal
widths of each of its sides and all horizontal depths of the casing; and
the electronic device comprises an antenna bracket (601) positioned above the
printed circuit board and supporting the antennas.

10 8. (Currently Amended) The electronic device of claim 7, wherein:


the printed circuit board is positioned vertically and the edge is an upper edge of
the printed circuit board; and
the antenna bracket (601) is a polygonal structure having at least two sides (603)
in which some of the antennas are on at least two of the sides.

9. (Currently Amended) The electronic device of claim 8, wherein:
the printed circuit board secured to a rear wall (206) of the casing and parallel to
the rear wall;
the antenna bracket are secured to a rear wall (206) of the casing; and
20 the wires of the antennas are routed to one of the sides of the antenna bracket
and down to the wire securing slots.

10. (Original) The electronic device of claim 9, wherein the electrical connectors are
each positioned laterally with respect to the wire securing slots in a direction parallel to
25 the edge of the printed circuit board.

11. (Currently Amended) The electronic device of claim 1, wherein:


the electronic components are antennas;
the electronic device is a set top box or gateway device; and
30 the electronic device comprises an antenna bracket (601) positioned above the
printed circuit board and supporting the antennas.

12. (Currently Amended) The electronic device of claim 11, wherein:


the printed circuit board is positioned vertically and the edge is an upper edge;
and
5 the antenna bracket (601) is a polygonal structure having at least two sides (603)
in which some of the antennas are on at least two of the sides.

13. (Currently Amended) The electronic device of claim 12, wherein:


the printed circuit board secured to a rear wall (206) of the electronic device and
10 parallel to the rear wall;
the antenna bracket are secured to a rear wall (206) of the casing;
the wires of the antennas are routed to one of the sides of the antenna bracket
and down to the wire securing slots; and
the wire securing slots are substantially a J-shape, substantially a check design

15 () shape, substantially an L-shape, or substantially a T-shape.

14. (Currently Amended) The electronic device of claim 13, wherein:


the electronic device has a casing that is a vertically oriented structure; and
the rear wall has at least one staging slot (230), the staging slots are configured
20 to temporarily support the printed circuit board during assembly of the electronic device.

15. (Currently Amended) A method of constructing a set top box or gateway device
(200) having a casing comprising:
providing a printed circuit board (501) having wire securing slots (540) along an
25 edge of the printed circuit board and electrical connectors (606) on a first side (504) of
the printed circuit board adjacent to the edge;
routing wires (604) of electronic components (602) into the wire securing slots
(540) such that the wires enter through a second side (505) of the printed circuit board
and exit the first side;
30 connecting the wires to the electrical connectors;
attaching the printed circuit board to a wall (206) of the casing; and

closing the casing.

16. (Currently Amended) The method of claim 15 further comprising forming wire
securing slots by cutting or punching substantially a J-shape, ra substantially a check

5 design () shape, substantially an L-shape, or substantially a T-shape groves T-shape

cutout along the edge of the printed circuit board.

17. (Currently Amended) The method of claim 15 further comprising:


providing an antenna bracket (601) having a polygonal structure having at least
10 two sides (603), at least two of the sides having pockets (605) for supporting at least
one of the electronic components, wherein the electronic components are antennas;
routing the wires of the antennas into the pockets of the antenna bracket; and
mounting the antenna bracket to the wall of the casing.

15 18. (Original) The method of claim 17, wherein the casing is a vertically oriented
structure and the printed circuit board is oriented vertically and parallel to the wall.

19. (Original) The method of claim 18, wherein the edge of the printed circuit board
having the wire securing slots is an upper edge of the printed circuit board and the edge
20 is at a lower lateral position than the antenna bracket upon the closing of the casing.

20. (Currently Amended) The method of claim 19 further comprising:


holding the printed circuit board in staging slots (230) on the wall of the casing
during the connecting of the wires such that the printed circuit board is at an angle with
25 respect to the wall; and
removing the printed circuit board from the staging slots on the wall for the
mounting of the printed circuit board.

21. (Original) A method for constructing a sub-assembly for incorporating into a


30 plurality of different set top boxes and gateway devices, comprising:
forming a plurality of slots along an edge of a printed circuit board;

arranging a plurality of electrical connectors on a side of said printed circuit board


adjacent to said edge;
providing a plurality of antennas with respective lead wires;
securing said respective lead wires in respective ones of said slots; and,
5 operatively connecting said lead wires to respective ones of said electrical
connectors.

22. (Original) The method of claim 21, further comprising: supporting said antennas
from a position above said printed circuit board.

23. (Original) The method of claim 22, further comprising: positioning said electrical
connectors laterally with respect to said slots, in a direction parallel to said edge of said
printed circuit board.

15 24. (Cancelled) The method of claim 21, further comprising:


configuring said slots to be substantially T-shaped, substantially J-shaped. substantially
L-shaped, or substantially check-mark () shaped.
