eRAN12.1 01 (2017-03-08)
This issue does not include any changes.
2 Overview
Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) uses multiple antennas for transmission and reception
in a cell. mxn MIMO indicates that m antennas are used for transmission and n antennas for
reception.
This document describes eNodeB multiple-antenna reception and transmission. Uplink
MIMO means that the eNodeB uses multiple antennas for reception. Downlink MIMO means
that the eNodeB uses multiple antennas for transmission.
3 Applications
experience. For deployment requirements and procedures of the feature package, see the
feature parameter description referenced in the table below.
The following table describes the applications of the feature package.
4 Value
The following describes the benefits and impact of each feature package.
l There will be lower gains if MRC is used for uplink reception in a cell.
l There will be higher gains if inter-cell interference is stronger.
l A UE can obtain higher gains when it is further away from the cell center.
l A cell can obtain higher gains when more UEs are far away from the cell center.
l Uplink coverage may deteriorate and CEU throughput may decrease if there is high load
and very strong interference on the network after uplink MU-MIMO is enabled.
l The peak throughput can be reached when the SINR is high, UEs are not in line of sight
(LOS), and there are many multipath signals.
l A UE can obtain higher gains when it is further away from the cell center.
l A cell can obtain higher gains when more UEs are far away from the cell center.
l The peak throughput can be reached when the SINR is high, UEs are not in LOS, and
there are many multipath signals.
l A UE can obtain higher gains when it is further away from the cell center.
l A cell can obtain higher gains when more UEs are far away from the cell center.
l There will be higher gains if the SINR is higher and channel correlation is lower.
l There will be higher capacity gains when there are a larger proportion of UEs distributed
in independent scheduling areas and involved in RB multiplexing.
l There will be higher capacity gains if the Virtual 4T4R Independent Scheduling
Threshold parameter is set to a smaller value (the recommended minimum value is 10
dB) and there are a larger number of UEs in independent scheduling areas while UE
distribution and cell load remain unchanged.
l There will be higher RB multiplexing gains, capacity gains, and user-perceived
throughput gains in independent scheduling areas if the original SFN cell load is higher
while UE distribution and related parameter settings remain unchanged.
