considerations filed via myUNSW as per course outline requirements will be considered.

Students are required to bring to the examination their UNSW student ID. If you did not
have your UNSW student ID, you would need other form of photo identification such as
passport or Australian drivers licence.

1. If possible, please arrive at least 5 minutes before the official starting time of the
lecture (i.e., 11am for Tues morning lecture, 6pm for Tues evening lecture, and 10am
for Friday morning lecture).
2. Please do not enter the lecture room without the instruction from the lecturer.
3. Have your UNSW student ID ready for inspection at the door.
4. The lecture room will open for entry at the official starting time of the lecture
5. The exam will start precisely at 10 minutes past the official starting time of the
lecture.
6. No extra time will be granted for any student arriving late to the test.
7. You must bring an electronic device, such as a laptop, tablet or iPad, with access to
either UNSW WIFI or your own wireless internet connection, to enable you to log in
Moodle course website. I think it is a very bad idea to use the mobile phone as it will
disadvantage you in terms of both reading and calculation but it is your choice and
your responsibility.
8. No noise permitted. No restrictions on contents it is an open-book exam.

Materials Required/Permitted:
1. UNSW student ID.
2. An electronic device, such as a laptop, tablet or iPad, with access to UNSW WIFI and
enabling you to log in Moodle course website.
3. Writing pen(s), blue or black ink and pencils you may need to do calculation and
write notes manually.
4. Any type of calculator(s) including using your electronic device to do calculation.
5. The textbook, lecture notes, and other course relevant materials.

1
Internet access: You may use uniwide or bring your own wireless internet service. You are
only permitted to use the internet access for connecting to Moodle to start and remain
with the specific Online Exam Module. No other internet connection, access or web page is
permitted during the test. You must bring your own device (e.g., laptop, tablet or iPad). You
will get a zero mark for the test if you breached this policy on internet access during the test
(as it will be treated as CHEATING).

Excel: You may use Excel, your PDF lecture notes and other course materials (off-line) for
the In-Class Online Test. All materials have to be stored locally and not make use of
internet.

Formula sheet: Not provided.

Textbook: You may use the textbook but it is recommended that you refer to your textbook
sparingly. You must not disturb the people sitting next to you when you use the textbook.
You must use it discretely.

Device (e.g., laptop) contents: There are no restrictions regarding the contents (materials)
on your device. You may access those contents (materials) at your own risk and/or
inconvenience. It is recommended that you refer to those contents sparingly. There is the
risk that your device may freeze and time may be lost. There would also be greater demand
on the battery. Keeping your excel file simple would help to avoid nasty surprises.

Final answers: You will only be provided with a final score of your test and no information
on the questions solution and right answer. Selected questions will be discussed in the
tutorials of week 6.

Some Useful Tips: (1) Do not abuse your device (e.g., laptop); (2) Have patience and wait for
your device (e.g., laptop) to respond; (3) Do not type too quickly; (4) Do not click too rapidly
as your device may not response well to rapid multiple clicks; (5) Do not open too many
files; (6) Do not open files too quickly in rapid succession.

General Advice: (1) You would usually have no time to look for the correct excel file or
equation if you have too many files or equations; (2) You would usually have no time to
read the textbook, unless you know what to look for and exactly where to look; (3) Students
who do well generally do not need to refer to the textbook and would use a new blank Excel
spreadsheet; (4) Use of Excel spreadsheets prepared in advance generally would lead to
confusion during the test, especially when the question has been changed; (5) You must be
well-prepared; (6) You must know the concepts well; (7) You must know and understand the
assumptions underlying the calculations.
