Let everyone speak the truth with his neighbour, for we are members one of another.
Jointly owned by the Anglican, Uniting and Roman Catholic congregations, the Trinity Church was opened
on October 11th, 1969 and replaces the original churches, Anglican - St Peters consecrated June 15th 1906,
Methodist Wesleyan Church consecrated August 6th 1913 and Roman Catholic St Patricks consecrated
February 13th 1916, after they were destroyed by an earthquake on October 14th 1968. Following the loss of
their churches, the three denominations met, agreeing to build and share one church.
This arrangement served parishioners well through the years until 2013 when regular services ceased due to
diminishing attendances and lack of clergy. The church is still available for baptisms, weddings and funerals.

The location of Holy Trinity in Chittering is recorded in 1836 the place of the willy wag tail, in translation of an aboriginal word. The lot was acquired and work began in 1866, The stone church was completed at a cost
400, and was consecrated by Bishop Parry on 16th October 1887 at a cost of. Recent renovations have restored much of the original building and married the pioneers work with modern comfort.

JANUARY
The church is on the main highway and the generations have always travelled to worship here. The grave yard is an interesting walk through the Bindoon story.

The history of the Anglican Church in Mundubbera dates to around 1910 when services commenced as part of Eidsvold Parish. For several years the services were held in the local State St John the Baptist, Mundubbera QLD 1910

FEBRUARY
School. In 1922, with the rapid development of the Mundubbera district, it was decided to build St John the Baptist Church, which was accomplished almost immediately.
The dedication of the new church took place on Saturday 30th June, 1923. This beautiful, wooden, pioneer church remains much as it was 95 years ago, and continues to serve an active
rural community.

The original church was built from pre-cut timber and corrugated iron sent from England. It was dedicated by Bishop Thomas in 1909 and was supported by BCA for over 40 years. However, this building became unsafe and
was removed in 1961. The current church was built from bricks and steel, with slightly concave walls, forming a triangular shape. It has a large white spire and cross centrally located on its roof. It was dedicated by Bishop Reed

in 1962. Penong is a small rural community situated 800km west of Adelaide on the Eyre Highway. The area consists mainly of wheat and sheep farming with gypsum and salt mining south of the town. The lovely little church
has served its people well including major community events such as recent baptisms, funerals and weddings

In 1871 a church was built in Gracemere by a Trust of six different denominations. One being the Church of England. This was the United Protestant Church. In 1905 the Church of England built their own typical wooden church
and this was used until 1995. Our contemporary, multi-purpose building, which won an architectural award, took 18 months to complete with a lot of voluntary labour and was dedicated on 3rd February, 1996. Weekly worship,

St John the Baptist Church, Ouse is part of the large country Parish of Hamilton in the Derwent Valley, Tasmania. Built in 1842 on land donated by WA Bethune it stands on a rise overlooking the River Ouse on what was once
the main road into the township. Its very fine stained glass windows commemorate various families as well as a centenary window erected in 1942. Seating 100 people it has a collection of interesting wall plaques including one

to Major General Sir John Gellibrand who served with distinction in WWI and whose family were early settlers at Ouse. Simply but nicely proportioned, it is a place of quiet peace.

Local citizen Mr J Taylor donated the land and money for the church which was commenced in 1882. The first service was held by the Bishop of Perth in 1884. Arthur River never became a town as such but was more a settlement
and staging post for travellers from Perth to Albany. The community is rural, the small and ageing congregation being drawn from surrounding farms. The ministry of the church and congregation is a sure and certain sign of

St Albans Kooringal was consecrated in 1958 with a large crowd of 500 in attendance. Although of unusual design for church architecture, it fitted with the modern buildings of the rapidly expanding suburb of Kooringal. The

Initially well attended services were held in the home of Mr and Mrs John Evans, moving later to the larger home of Mrs John Williams in this rural community in the Upper Lachlan Shire. John Williams donated land for a church
which was constructed of corrugated iron on stumps and lined with pine board which was completed in 1914. In November 2003 Bishop George Browning laid the foundation stone for a sandstone replacement built by locals.

The foundation stone of St Stephens was laid on Wednesday 13th December, 1911. During the Great War of 1914-18 weeknight intercessions were held. The regular service was evensong

In 1887 All Saints was officially opened on Christmas Day. This small, solid Double-brick church replaced an earlier wooden one in use since 1881. Major renovations in 1986 saw the
chancel area removed and a larger, user-friendly worship space added; this is now the main worship area. With 8 stained glass windows, 5 modern and 2 from the original church plus

an eye-catching life-sized image of Jesus standing at the door to knock (Revelation 3:20) relocated after the sale of All Saints sister church, St Johns Toolamba in 2014. Current ministry
includes Sunday morning service, a weekly mainly music program for pre-schoolers and a bi-monthly Messy Church focussed on families with limited experience of traditional worship.

The building of Christ Church, on a full block (Church Square), started in 1854 and the first services were held on 2 August, 1857. The architect, Charles Swyer, came out from England with
the first minister, Revd David Seddon. The building was described as a very handsome and substantial structure in the early English style. The building was closed in 1880 and 1881 to

allow the addition of a new chancel.
The Point King sandstone used was seen as an experiment, leaving Christ Church as a unique example of the use of this stone. The church has been a constant in addressing the
ever-changing needs of the area. In 2002 a Community Centre was added next to the church building to further address those needs.
THE LITURGICAL CALENDAR
THE CALENDAR
The churchs liturgical calendar provides a way of commemorating the events of the life of Our Lord and
of recording the great doctrines of the faith. The lectionary gives us a systematic way of reading the Bible
to provide the basis for these commemorations. There are two major focal points in the Christian year:
Christmas and Easter. Each of these events is preceded by a season of preparation and followed by a season
of celebration.
ADVENT
Advent begins the Christian year and is the season of preparation for Christmas. Advent means coming and
so the theme of this time is the coming of the Lord in our daily life, at the end of history, and especially in
his birth at Bethlehem.
CHRISTMAS and EPIPHANY
Christmas is the celebration of our Lords birth, his incarnation, and is followed by Epiphany with its message
that he is the Saviour of all people. The Christmas season concludes on the Sunday after Epiphany when we
celebrate The Baptism of our Lord.
LENT
Lent is the period of forty days preparation for Easter. It begins with Ash Wednesday when in some churches
ashes (prepared by burning the palms of the previous Palm Sunday) are used to place a mark on peoples
foreheads as a sign of penitence. Often the spiritual disciplines of prayer, fasting and alms giving are used
during Lent.
HOLY WEEK
The last week of Lent is known as Holy Week. It begins with the Sunday of the Passion (Palm Sunday) which
has the two themes of our Lords triumphant entry into Jerusalem and the anticipation of his death. How well
this joint message is symbolised by the palm crosses often distributed on this day: the palms of acclamation
and the cross of rejection. On Maundy Thursday we commemorate the Last Supper and the institution of
the Eucharist. Good Friday is the day of crucifixion.
EASTER
Easter Day is the Day of Resurrection, the celebration of our Lords triumph over death. It begins the Great
Fifty Days, the season of Easter. On the fortieth day we celebrate the Ascension, Jesus return to reign eternally
with God the Father. The Easter season concludes at Pentecost (Whit Sunday) with a commemoration of the
pouring out of the Holy Spirit. The Sunday after Pentecost is Trinity Sunday, celebrating Gods Revelation of
himself as Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
OTHER TIMES
The periods between Epiphany and Lent and between Pentecost and Advent are other times when the
themes of our worship emerge from the bible passages set for reading by the lectionary.
FESTIVALS (HOLY DAYS)
In addition to the seasons of Advent/Christmas and Lent/Easter, the calendar provides for the celebration
of other events in the life of Jesus and for the commemoration of the saints and martyrs of The Bible and
subsequent history of the Church.
LITURGICAL COLOURS
The changing seasons and festivals are marked by the use of different liturgical colours, reflecting the mood
of the season or occasion.
WHITE (or gold) signifies purity and the glory of the Lord. It is used for the seasons of Christmas and Easter,
for other events in the life of Jesus, (Annunciation, Naming and Circumcision, Presentation in the Temple)
and for the festivals of saints other than martyrs.
RED is the colour of blood and therefore sacrifice. It is used for occasions recalling the sacrifice of Christ
(Sunday of the Passion and Good Friday) and for the festivals of the martyrs. Red is also the colour of fire
and so signifies the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost.
PURPLE (or violet) is the colour of royalty and of austerity. It is appropriate for the seasons of preparation,
Advent and Lent. Sometimes blue is used in Advent as a sign of hope.
GREEN is the colour of nature and life. It is used when none of the other colours is appropriate. Its use
throughout the periods after Epiphany and after Pentecost can remind us of creation and growth of our
Christian life.
THE LECTIONARY
Recent History
A lectionary is an ordered system of selected reading from the Bible appointed for liturgical use on specific
occasions in the church year and so is closely related to the calendar. A Prayer Book for Australia provides a
lectionary on a three-year cycle. A three-year lectionary was introduced into the Anglican Church of Australia
as part of An Australian Prayer Book (1978).
This followed the Roman Catholic lectionary, first published in 1969, which became widely used by churches
of many traditions.
A thorough revision has been made by the (international and ecumenical) Consultation on the Common
Texts and published as The Revised Common Lectionary in 1992. It is this lectionary which is included in A
Prayer Book for Australia (1995).
CONTENT
A lectionary provides three readings and a psalm for each Sunday and major feasts throughout the year.
The first reading is from the Old Testament except in the Easter season when it is from the Book of Acts:
the second reading is from the New Testament, from an epistle or the Book of Revelation: the third reading
is from The Gospel. The lectionary encompasses a three year cycle (Years A, B & C). In year A the Gospel
reading is usually from Matthew, in B from Mark and in C from Luke. The Gospel of John is used to
supplement the other gospels and provides most of the gospel readings in the Easter Season. Year B began
Advent 2017. Year C begins Advent 2018.
