Welcome to the New Headway Elementary, fourth edition
Teachers Resource Disc the complete resource for
communicative activities, testing and continuous
assessment, with materials that you can customize for
your students and your teaching situation.
This CD-ROM works in two ways:In your computer
it has communicative activities, tests, and continuous
assessment materials.In your CD player it has listening
test material to use in class with the skills tests.
Print-friendly version
The documents on this CD-ROM
Some of the documents are provided as PDF files and
others as both PDF and Word files (the content of these
is the same). You can print out the PDFs and use them
as they are. (If you dont have Adobe Reader, get it from
the Adobe website.)
If you want to adapt the Word documents, you must
first save them on your computer. You can then change
them and save your changes, as with any Word
document. If you have any problems opening the
documents, go to the documents folder on the CD-
ROM. All the documents can be printed out and/or
photocopied for classroom use. They may not be sold
without the permission of Oxford University Press.
Communicative activities with
New Customizable Worksheets
There are 24 Communicative activities for you to print
out and/or photocopy and use with your class, 2 for each
unit in the Students Book. Each activity has a clear
New Headway Elementary Photocopiable Oxford University Press 2011
Worksheets allow you to modify each activity for your
students and your teaching situation. Simply open the
Customizable Worksheet, key in any new text, and print.
The first 12 Communicative activities are unique to this
disc and have step by step Teachers notes with warmers,
extension activities, and suggestions for how to use the
Customizable worksheets. The other 12 Communicative
activities are also found at the back of the Teachers
Book. The document How to use the Teachers Book
Communicative activities contains Teachers notes
for all 12 activities, along with ideas for using the
accompanying Customizable Worksheets.
Unit tests
There are 12 Unit tests, one for each unit in the Students
Book. There are two versions (A and B) of all these tests.
If your students are unlikely to copy each other, you can
simply use the A tests. If your students are inclined to
copy one another, put them in pairs, one with an A test
and one with a B test this makes it more difficult for
them to copy each others answers. (The A and B tests
cover exactly the same material, but the questions have
been changed and/or reorganized.) An answer key is
also provided.
The Unit tests are also presented as Word documents
which you can adapt to suit your needs. Copy them to
your computer and remember to save your customized
tests if you want to use them again.
Stop and check tests
There are three Stop and check tests, revising Units 14,
58, and 912. These can be set in class or given for
homework. An answer key is also provided. There are
two versions (A and B) of these tests. If your students
are unlikely to copy each other, you can simply use the A
tests. If, however, your students have a tendency to copy
each other, put them in pairs, one with an A test and one
with a B test its almost impossible for them to copy
each others answers. (The A and B tests cover exactly
the same material, but the questions have been changed
and reorganized.)
Progress tests
There are two Progress tests, which cover Units 16, and
Units 712. They can be used as mid-year and end-of-
year tests. An answer key is provided.
Skills tests
The four skills of reading, writing, listening, and
speaking are covered in these tests. The audio for the
listening test is included on the disc. Skills Test 1 covers
Units 14, Skills Test 2 is a mid-term test and covers
Units 16, Skills Test 3 covers Units 58, Skills Test 4
covers Units 912, and Skills Tests 5 is a final test and
covers Units 112. The tapescripts for the listening
sections and an answer key are provided.

 Exit tests
There are two separate Exit tests to help you assess
students level on completion of the course. An answer
key is included.
You can adapt the Exit tests Word document to suit
your needs by copying it to your computer. Remember
to save your customized test to your computer if you
want to use it again.
Students Book Grammar Reference
and Practice exercises
There is a PDF document of the New Headway
Elementary, fourth edition Students Book Grammar
Reference with practice exercises for you to copy and
give to your students. An answer key is also provided.
There is also a Word document containing the practice
exercises only. You can customize these exercises to suit
your needs by copying it to your computer. Remember
to save your customized practice exercises to your
computer if you want to use them again.
Word lists
There are Word lists for New Headway Elementary,
fourth edition. They are provided as both unit-by-unit
lists, and also a complete AZ list.
Tapescripts
Tapescripts from the Students Book and Workbook, as
well as the scripts for the listening texts included in the
Skills tests are provided as PDFs and Word documents.
The document Ideas for using tapescripts provides useful
ideas for customizing Word tapescripts and using
them with your students.
