Presenter is walking towards the camera saying:
PRESENTER
Mental Health, we see it all the
time in songs, on TV and even in
are own friendship groups. But do
we as a society actually know how
it is impacting our young people?

Pause
PRESENTER
For example, is it just a phase or
is this a serious issues that needs
to be dealt with? Do we know how
many people have committed suicide
last year in 2016 due to the rising
mental health issues in young
people? Do parents understand what
mental health even is? And how can
we help?

But first, what is mental health?

PRESENTER
A mental illness is when a person
is very unhappy and anxious
(worried and nervous) for long
periods and cannot have a normal
life during these periods. Symptoms
of mental illness can be:
tiredness, loss of appetite, and
sleeping problems are all classic
symptoms of mental illness.

Our presenter is sat down.

PRESENTER
Do you know the suicide rate in
young people aged 15-19?
PRESENTER
Well In every 100,000 people in the
UK, 7 males aged between 15-19
committed suicide in 2016. Thats
4592 deaths that year.
PRESENTER
Girls on the other hand in every
100,000 people in the UK, 3 females
aged between 15-19 committed
suicide in 2016. Thats 1968 deaths
that year.

PRESENTER
All together in 2016 6560 young
people lost there lives in the UK
to suicide.

INT. INTERVIEWS
1. Do you know how many young people committed suicide last
year in 2016 due to mental health?
2. How many people do you reckon committed suicide last year
due to mental health?

Our presenter is sat down.

PRESENTER
According to the Mental Health
Foundation, nearly 1 in 10 young
people aged five to 16 are affected
by a mental health problems.

While many young people will grow


up with a mental health issue, the
Mental Health Foundation reported
that the number of those
experiencing problems has risen
compared to 30 years ago. Many
factors will contribute to how the
mind develops and how well a child
will be able to cope with the
changes happening to their body.

Some of the most common mental


health problems affecting young
people are:
1. Depression

2. Self-harm
3. Generalised anxiety disorder
(GAD)

4. Post-traumatic stress disorder


(PTSD)
5. Attention deficit hyperactivity
disorder (ADHD)

6. Eating disorders.
PRESENTER
Now, you know all this information.
The one question we still need to
ask is, do parents regonise that
mental illness is a serious problem
in young people today?

question out of this whole project.

people to help them through this.
