ABSTRACT
Background: Installation of Endotracheal Tube (ETT) in patients in the ICU
often cause problems one of which is an accumulation of secretions. Handling the
accumulation of secretions is by doing Suction. There are two types of Suction
technique, Open and Closed Suctioning. Open Suctioning techniques, during the
procedure patients are first disconnect from the mechanical ventilator. Closed
technique, during the procedur patient does not need to disconnect from the
ventilator. However Suction known changes in patient's hemodynamic paramerter,
so need to be considered before performing the procedure.
Objective: To evaluate the changes in haemodynamic parameters of the
implementation of the Open and Closed Suctioning technique in ICUs patient.
Methods: This research is quantitative with comparative design. 10 samples, 5
patients underwent Open Suctioning and 5 patients Closed Suctioning with a
accidental sampling technique. Instrument using observation paper, analysis of
data using paired sample t-test.
Result: The changes are significant parameters of heart rate and SpO2 (p <0.01)
after Open Suctioning and no significant changes in Closed Suctioning (p> 0.01).
Conclusion: Closed Suctioning recommended in ICUs patient, to prevent
complications related to the procedure.
Keywords: Open Suctioning, Closed Suctioning, Hemodynamic Parameters.
