DESIGN OF LIGHTING AND
SOCKETS SCHEMES

3.1 Lighting Calculation

In this section, the lighting design calculations and luminaries selections are
introduced. The design calculations are based on the DIALux program for
Phillips Lighting.

3.1.1 Methods of Calculations:

The lighting system is one of the main systems in design, so calculations should
be calculated to know how to light the area required.
There are two methods can be used in lighting calculations to determine type of
lamps and luminaries used:
1- Lumen method
2- Packages "calculux or dialux"

Lumen Method:
Some factors should be taken into consideration :
The first factor is the Illumination (lumen/area), LUX.
LUX depends on places and standards. It can be selected according to the
application area. In Chapter (2), the different LUX levels for different
application areas are given.

The second factor is the maintenance factor ()

Maintenance factor depends on aging and atmospheric conditions.

CHAPTER (3
(3) DESIGN OF LIGHTING AND SOCKETS
SOCKETS SCHEMES

Indoor Lighting =0.9

Outdoor Lighting =0.8

The third factor is the utilization factor (U)

Utilization factor depends on type of lighting, dimensions of working plane,
shape of walls and type of wall paintings.

The fourth factor is Room index

This factor depends on type of lamp used.
This factor is taken from tables directly depending on reflection of lamps and
type of lamps.
Room index=L*W/hm(L+W)
hm: distance between lamp and working plane.
hm: depend on working plane.
hm=h-0.8
Room index near to 0.4
After getting these factors total lumen can be calculated:
Total lumen= (lux *area)/ (*U)
Then number of lamps, spots&luminaires required should be calculated.
Number of lamps=total lumen/lumen of each lamp.
The following factors are taken into consideration:
1- space/height ratio 12.
2- Dimension of working plane.
3- Wattage of lamps.

3.1.2 DIALux Light Software:

DIALux Light Wizard has been available since DIALux version 3.1. With the
help of this wizard it is possible to complete lighting designs quickly and
simply. This means that infrequent users of DIALux can readily use the
program without having to train themselves fully in using the software. After
the installation you will find the DIALux Light Wizard on your desktop near the
"normal" DIALux icon. You can start the wizard by one double-click. If you
have already started DIALux, you will find the DIALux Light wizard in the
menu File Wizards.

In the window Project Information you enter your data and the data of your
customer. Both will appear later on the printout. After completing the data
entry, please click on Next.

DIALux Light Wizard Project information

In the window Data Input you specify the room geometry on the left hand side.
By default DIALux Light produces a rectangular room. If you check the box
Use LShaped Room, DIALux Light shows a L-shaped room. Enter the relevant
dimensions with regard to the room figure drawing. You can change on the left
hand side the reflectance of the ceiling, walls and floor. The wall reflectance
selected applies to all the walls.

One click on Databases starts a manufacturer PlugIn. In the PlugIn you can
select the luminaire which you want to use and then click on Apply or Use. Then
close the PlugIn. Now DIALux Light shows you the selected luminaire on the
right above. (By default the last used luminaire is always displayed.) After
completing the data entry, please click on Next.

In the window Calculation and Results DIALux Light calculates the number of
luminaires by the efficiency method that you need to achieve the desired
illuminance. You can enter the desired illuminance in the field Planned Em. The
luminaires, which are outside the room, are not considered by DIALux Light in
the calculation. By using the entry Horizontal arrangement or Vertical
arrangement you can specify the distances of the luminaires to each other and
from the wall. After you have inserted all values correctly, click on Calculate
and DIALux Light will start the calculation.

DIALux Light Wizard Calculation

Afterwards DIALux Light displays the results in a figure of isolux lines and a
table for the work plane.

In the Result Output window you have several choices; you can print the results
or save them in electronic format as a pdf file. So click the appropriate button.
By using the check boxes next to the printout symbols you can affect which
outputs are actually printed out. By default all outputs are activated. If you
would like to provide for example only a short overview, activate only the
summary. If you would like to present the results to your customer, you may
wish to activate all outputs.

 DIALux Package Requirments:

The program has some inputs must be entered:
1- Dimensions of area that required to be designed.
 Rectangle:
Specify length, width and height (a, b, h)
 L-Shaped:
Here the factors entering are a, b, c and d in addition to hm.
Then lux should be specified according to standard used and enter the
maintenance factor.
Indoor lighting =0.9
Outdoor lighting =0.8
And the desired type of lamps should be determined according to the project

3.1.2 Type of Lamps and Luminaires:

This project consists of lower basement, higher basement, ground, mezzanine,
1st floor, repeated floors.

 In Lower Basement Floor

Industrial Fluorescent lamp (2*40W) is used as high quality luminaries don't
be needed in parking and 6 anti shock for ramp of the parking are used each
one has 1 lamp of 100 watt (Incandescent lamp)

 In Higher Basement Floor

Prismatic luminaries are used with (2*35W) lamps
This luminaries has dimensions 1515*167*64mm and these luminaries are
used because the higher basement contains some shops and antishocks are
used also for the ramp

 In Ground Floor
Spots Recessed mounted are used with 2*18 watt lamps in shops
Its dimensions 205*175mm

3.2 Sockets Design:

Distribution of different types of sockets in buiding depends mainly on the type
and use of that building.

3.2.1 Types of Sockets (Outlets):

 Power Sockets: > 16A
Used for high power rating devices (air conditioner, automatic washing
machines, dish washer, etc.
 Normal Sockets: <16A
Used for low power rating devices (computers, TV, fans, video, etc).

In the case of sockets circuits design, the following points may be considered:
Not every circuit should exceed 1500 VA.
10% spare for sockets or one socket spare. It should be a socket
every 1.5 meter.

The outlets divided into two types:

Normal sockets (250 VA load for each socket)
Power sockets (2500 VA load for each socket)

 Normal Sockets:
They are used for light load only. The rating of each normal socket is 250VA.

 Power Sockets:
They are used mainly for heavy loads such as heaters , motorsetc. The rating
of each power socket is 1000-2500 VA. Each power socket is a single circuit
directly connected to the panel board. Every power socket is specialized to one
circuit, except in kitchens" each 2 power sockets in one circuit" due to diversity
factor between them.

3.2.2 Design:
Service outlet, comprising floor covering protection frame with seal, a self-
closing lid and a telescopic tube with lid for cord exit.

3.2.3 Functionally Characteristics:

The surface design prevents paint work from scratches and scuffs such as used
in busy areas like banks and display rooms, is idealy suited. The circular from
the service outlet is directly independent and hence suitable for building layouts.
All materials are resistant to the maximum extent and are resistant to usual
cleaning media. The interior of the service outlet in both used and unused
conditions is protected from moisture ingress from above.
