Molly Malone is a popular Irish song set in Dublin, which has become the unofficial anthem of the

county.

The song tells the story of a fishmonger called Molly Malone but she died young of a fever. However,
there is also a tale of Molly Malone being a street hawker by day and prostitute by night.

Despite numerous references about a woman called Molly Malone, there is no evidence that the song is
based on a real woman.

I really love this song because it's the one song that every Irish person in the world, be they in Ireland,
America and Australia that everyone will know and very enthusiastically sing. It's versatile
interpretations make it the ultimate song for every occasion.

The composer of the song is unknown and it is also a mystery where and when the song originated. The
statue of Molly Malone as seen above, is located on Suffolk Street, near the Trinity College of Dublin and
Grafton Street.
