KUCHING: Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Abang Openg is setting a new path for the state through
ongoing efforts to digitise Sarawaks economy from its present conventional form.

Abang Johari said the state government wants to emulate the success of the worlds leading nations, which had
attained developed status after venturing into the digital or new economy.

"We do not want to be left behind by advancements in technology. We do not want to let opportunities pass us by.

That is why I have made a bold move to invest RM1 billion from the states coffers to develop internet infrastructure,
state-wide.

Without adequate internet infrastructure, our aspiration to develop a digital economy in the state can never be
achieved, he said in his special Hari Raya message to the people.

Abang Johari also paid tribute to his predecessor, the late Tan Sri Adenan Satem, whose sudden demise on Jan 11
shocked the entire nation, particularly Sarawakians.

We are still saddened by the passing of Tok Nan (Adenan). He laid out policies which had lessened the burden of
the people, he added.

In the spirit of Eid, the chief minister also called upon Sarawakians to continue preserving religious, racial and social
harmony that has been built for decades.

There are bound to be differences of opinion, since we are living in a multiracial society. Such differences, however,
never divide us.

This is purely because, in Sarawak, we resolve our differences by engaging in rational discussion to find common
ground, as well as formulating solutions through consensus and tolerance he said.

He urged Sarawakians to reject any attempt to create disunity, which would benefit no one in the state.

We must never allow any party to poison the minds of our people and create hatred in this peaceful state.

I hope all Sarawakians, regardless of race and religion, can continue to work together and preserve unity, which is
the essence of a harmonious state, he added.
