Section A : Directed Writing

[35 marks]

[Time suggested : 45 minutes]

As the President of the Science Society, you have been invited to visit an animal shelter
last week. Write a report to your teacher on what you have learnt at the animal shelter.
Use the notes given below to write your report.

Information you get at the shelter:

animals are not given enough food by the owners
sick animals are left unattended
owners abused their own pets
pets are left at the rubbish site when owners did not want them anymore

Activities you saw at the shelter:

how pictures and reports on abused animals are documented
how animals are cleaned by caretakers
how sick animals are attended by a veterinarian
how animals are trained

Activities you did at the shelter:

fed some cats at the shelter
cleaned two animal cages

When writing the report, you must remember to:

give your report a title
address your report to your teacher
include your name
suggest two ways how students can help abused animals
use all the points given
elaborate on the given points
Note:
For your report, you will receive up to 15 marks for the format and content points, and up
to 20 marks for the quality of your writing.

Write a composition of about 350 words on one of the following topics.

1. My wish for Malaysia.

2. Smartphone as an educational tool. Discuss.

3. Describe how you and your classmates spent a day performing acts of kindness.

4. Write about a hardworking but quiet young woman who lives alone in a house near
your school. Begin your story with: Every day I would walk pass the grey house
on my way to school.

5. Write a story with this message: Knowledge is power.
