UUM COMMITTED TOWARDS GREEN COMPUTING TECHNOLOGY


ADVANCEMENT

Sepang, 25 April 2017 Through the conference platform of the International


Conference on Computing and Informatics (ICOCI) 2017, Universiti Utara Malaysia
(UUM) is committed to expand a green computing technology in realizing Malaysia
as a developed country status.

In his speech, Professor Dato' Seri Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak, the Vice-Chancellor
of UUM when opening the ICOCI 2017 conference at Sama-Sama Hotel in KLIA,
explaining the conference theme of "Embracing E-co Friendly Computing" is a
continuation of UUM efforts to promote green campus as well as in line with the
achievement of UUM for Global Gold medal, in the Green World Award 2016 and
also as an Ambassador of Green World 2016/2017.

The beauty of UUM campus is branded through the tagline "University in Forest
Green" becomes the inspiration to the ICOCI 2017 conference theme as featured
this year.

He said the three-day conference beginning today to gather more than 110
academics from local and abroad, researchers, and industry players in the field of
technology and green computing.

Meanwhile, Assistant Vice Chancellor of UUM College of Arts and Sciences, who is
also the Dean of the School of Computing (SOC), Associate Professor Dr. Huda
Ibrahim stated that, ICOCI 2017 is an important strategy to enhance research
collaboration in the field.
"Cloud Computing, Big Data Analytics, and the Internet of Things are emerging
technologies which impact directly on the use of green resources," said Dr. Huda.

ICOCI 2017 offers a valuable channel for the presenters and participants to
exchange ideas and jointly involved in exploring the latest technologies as well as
the current issues in line with the theme of this 6th conference edition since 2006.

Green computing is the term used to denote efficient use of resources in computing.
This term generally relates to the use of computing resources in conjunction with
minimizing environmental impact, maximizing economic viability and ensuring social
duties.

Scientists are conducting numerous studies in order to reduce the negative impact of
computing technology on our natural resources so that the green environment can
be sustained.

ICOCI 2017 is a conference organized biennially by the SoC while Universiti


Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) and Universiti Tenaga Nasional (Uniten) become
partners for this edition.

Also present at the opening ceremony were Associate Professor Dr. Huda Ibrahim,
Assistant Vice Chancellor UUM College of Arts & Science who is also the Dean of
SOC, Professor Dr. Ku Ruhana Ku Mahamud, Conference Chair of ICOCI 2017, and
Keynote Speaker Dr. Mazlan Abbas from FAVORIoT and Kiyotoshi Kuwae from
Okinawa Open Laboratory Japan.
