1.0 GENERAL:
1.1 Scope:

2.2 The head room above all the equipment shall be adequate for easy removal /
replacement for maintenance of compressors, motors etc.
2.3 Foundation height for all equipment except for pumps shall be min. 200mm above
finished floor level, while for the pumps this shall be min. 300mm. In case of small
pumps, the foundation height shall be so high that the pump shaft centre line is min.
600 mm above the finished floor level.
2.4 A platform with cat ladder access shall be provided for gauge glass, valves for NS >
80 mm, manholes, process blinds, clean out points, relief valves, level controllers,
located more than 2 M above the operating level.
2.5 A cat ladder access shall be provided for hand holes, vents, pressure and
temperature instruments, valves for NS 80 mm etc. located more than 2 m above
the operating level.
2.6 Safety chains shall be provided across ladder openings at all platforms.
2.7 Large machines such as multistage pumps shall be provided with monorails and
trolleys to take a lifting tackle capable of lifting the heaviest removable part of
equipments or driver.
2.9 Davit shall also be provided for relief valves, control valves and motor operated
valves of NS > 100 mm.

3.0 Piping:
3.1 Mechanical design of piping and selection of piping materials shall be according to
ANSI/ASME B31.3 and ASTM/API/IS/BS codes.
3.2 Dimensions of all normal elements such as pipes, fittings, flanges, valves etc. shall
be according to ANSI, API, BS or IS latest issue. Should an element not be covered
by the mentioned code, manufacturer's standard has to be applied.
3.3 Piping shall be arranged so that it drains to equipment wherever possible. Pockets
and dead ends are to be avoided.
3.4 Pipe spacing be adequate for easy maintenance.
3.5 Pumps suction lines shall be as short as possible and shall be designed to avoid
pockets of vapour or gas.
3.6 All the piping shall be supported properly.
3.7 Small bore lines may be supported from large bore lines wherever no local support
from steel work is available or practical. Wherever possible, small bore lines shall
have simplified supporting methods.
3.8 The rubber lining shall be of natural rubber and rubber lining shall be done as per IS
4682. Minimum size of rubber lined pipes shall be NS 50.
3.9 A minimum clearance of 150mm shall be provided from all the flanges from the
finished floor level.
3.10 A minimum clearance of 200mm shall be provided from the bottom of pipe to the
finished floor level.
