THE ROLE OF ENVIRONMENT IN THE TEACHING/LEARNING PROCESS.

Introduction/Background to the problem.

Environment is all around us. It gives us life, comfort and relaxation to enjoy. It is the source of our
livelihood, and our strengths. The teaching /learning process involves the attainment of knowledge for
future advancement in life. It involves going to school to learn or learning within the confines of home.
However, the marrying of the two has both positive and negative aspects to it. Environment affects
teaching learning process in more ways than one. This research aims at drawing attention to the
pitfalls of environment to learning. I aim to point out why environment affects the learning process and
how it can be helped. The awareness and sensitivity of the environment and its challenges need be
tabled.

Environmental education is composed of the awareness and sensitivity to the environment and its
challenges. This understanding brings about a concern and motivation that people need to improve or
maintain environmental quality. They then develop skills to identify and solve environmental challenges,
a participation leading to the resolution of the same.

Problem Statement

For a long time, many of us are dependent on the environment. We associate with it because we know
that we were brought up in it and therefore we adapt to whatever it throws to us. We go to school
every single day. We go through the environment that surrounds us irrespective of suitability or
complementarity. We, however, are ignorant about how we are affected by that which we so much
admire. There is a negativity that it has towards our comfort but we ignore the facts before us.
Environment affects learning. This research seeks to explore the ways in which environment is
connected to learning and how it comes about to affect the learning process.

Methodology

To effectively take on this research work, I intend to use a questionnaire, interviews and observation. I
intend to create awareness of environment; and sensitivity amongst people to the matters of
importance, through these means. They should finally come to an appreciation and attainment of skills
to solve these problems identified; if there.

If given enough resources, I intend to use the available time allotted to me to complete the research. I
hope to have adequate funding and a supervisor to assist me in this venture.
