Circularity(Roundness)*:
Circularityisacrosssectionalcheckthereforemeasurementsmustbegroupedaccordingly.Thecheckis
evaluatedineitheroftwoways,alongtheaxisofacircleorcylindernormalvectororthroughthecenter
pointofasphere(circularityforasphereisnotyetsupportedinSA).Thetoleranceestablishesthe
minimumdistancebetweentwoconcentriccirclescontainingthemeasurementsofthatpartatthe
crosssectionlocation.

CircularityEvaluationProcesswithinSA:
1. Theactualfeaturetypeisfirstestablished(circleorcylinder)basedonthenominaltype
(featuretowhichtheannotationisattached).
2. Thisfeaturetypeisfittotheentiredatasettoestablishthedirectionvector
3. Crosssectionsareestablishedalongthisdirectionvectorandthedataisdividedinto
groupsbasedupontheirpositionalongthisvector.
4. Aplaneisfittothefirstpointineachcrosssectiongroup(usingtheactualfeature

Cylindricity:
Cylindricitychecksensurethatallthespecifiedpointsarethesamedistancefromacommon
axis.Thetoleranceestablishestheminimumdistancebetweentwoconcentriccylinders
containingthemeasurementsofthatpart.

CylindricityEvaluationProcesswithinSA:
1. Twocoaxialcylindersarebuiltboundingtheextentsofthedata.
2. Thecylindersareallowedtofreelyrotatetoestablishtheminimumdistance
betweenthemwhilestillcontainingthedata.

cylinders(axis).Evaluatedasazoneinwhichthemedianlinemustlie.Straightnessisacross
sectionalchecksomeasurementsmustbegroupedaccordingly.


StraightnessEvaluationProcesswithinSA:
1. Thedirectionvectorisestablishedforthemeasuredfeature(lineorcylinder)
2. Crosssectionsareestablishedalongthisdirectionvectorandthedataisdividedinto

wheretheangleiseither90or0degreesrespectivelyandthestepsarethereforeexactlythesamein

annotationscanbeaddedtoCADFaces,SAobjectsordirectlytopointsdefininggeometry.

Angularity,PerpendicularityandParallelism:
Angularitychecksensurethatallthespecifiedpointslieatapproximatelyaspecifiedangle
relativetothedatumfeatures.Thetolerancecanbeestablishedineitherof2ways:

A. Theminimumdistancebetweentwoparallelplanesatthespecifiedangle
containingthemeasurementsofthefeature.



B. Theminimumdiameterofacylindricalzoneatthespecifiedanglecontainingthe
measurementsofthefeature.

obtainedfromthestandarddirectly.Locationcheckscanbeevaluateexcludingdatumsentirelyorby
includingasmanydatumsasareneededtofullyconstrainthemodel.Becauseofthecomplexityand
varietyofapplicationsforthesechecksannotationscanonlybeaddeddirectlytoCADFacesorSA
objectsandtheSAObjects(fittopoints)optionisdisabled.

SurfaceProfile:
Profilechecksprovidetheabilitytoevaluatesize,form,orientationandlocation.Currentlythischeckis
onlysupportedforsurfacesnotSAobjects.Aninnerandouterprofileboundaryisderivedfromthe
nominalfeaturesincludedinthecheck.Thistoleranceboundarycaneitherbesymmetricalor
asymmetricalbaseduponthetolerancedesignationwithintheannotation.Thenominalfeatureisfirst
alignedtothedatumstructurewhichcanincludeanynumberofdatumstofullyconstrainthepart.
Measurementsarethenfittothefeaturestominimizethepointdeviationsasallowedbytheremaining
degreesoffreedom.Themeasureddeviationsarethencomparedtothetoleranceboundarystructure
andthepartevaluatedaccordingly.

SurfaceProfileEvaluationProcesswithinSA:
1. Aninnerandoutertoleranceboundaryisestablishedbaseduponthetolerancefor
theconsideredfeatures(whichcanbedesignatedasymmetrical).
2. Thesefeatureareallowedtofreelyrotatebasedonthedatumconstraintsto
minimizethemaximumandminimumpointdeviations.
3. Theextentofthemaxandmindeviationisusedtoestablishthemeasuredprofile
deviationandcomparedtothetolerancezone.

CompositeSurfaceProfileCheck:
CompositeSurfaceProfileChecksprovideameanstoevaluatethepositionofapatternoffeaturesand
combinethatwithatighterevaluationoftheformofthatprofilerelativealessrestrictedsetofdatum
constraintsallwithinasinglecheck.Eachsegmentofthecompositecheckevaluatedusingthesame
toleranceconstraintsasdescribedforasingleprofilecheckbutwiththefollowingadditionalfreedoms:

CompoundversesCompositePosition:
WhatmakesCompositeSurfaceProfilechecksuniquefromtwoseparatepositionchecksisthat
compositechecksprovideagreaterdegreeoffreedominthelowersegmentcheckthanwould
beallowedthroughasecondarycheck.Takethefollowingcheckforexample:



ThepartisfirstfittoDatumA,B,andC,whichfullylocksdownalldegreesofrotationand
translationandtheuppersegmentofthecontrolframeisevaluated.Thepatternisthen
completelyreleasedtotranslatefreelyandrotatewithinthedegreesoffreedomnotlocked
downbydatumAtofitthenominalpattern.Theykeyhereisthattranslationiscompletely
unconstrained.

Nowconsiderthesecondcase.Inthiscasewehavetwoindependentcheckswhichcaneither
beevaluatedindividuallyortogetherreturningasinglepass/failresult.Inthiscasetheupper
segmentisevaluated,andtheninthesecondcheckthepartisfittodatumA.Thislocksdown
boththetranslationandrotationofthepart.Inthiscasethedifferenceisslight.Thepartis
limitedinitsabilitytomovetowardandawayfromdatumA.



Thedifferenceismoreapparentwithtwodatumsinthelowersegment.Thepartisboth
constrainedinpositiontodatumAandB.Thisrestrictionintranslationandrotationandonly
allowstheparttoslideinastraightlineperpendiculartothedatumstofitthedata.

Asacompositecheckthisisnotthecase.Thepartisstillfreetotranslatetofitthepattern,only
itsrotationisconstrainedbyAandB.

LineProfileCheck*:
Lineprofileismuchlikesurfaceprofileexceptthatitisa2Dcheck.Thetolerancezoneisnormaltothe
trueprofileofthefeatureateachlineelement.Thiscanbeausefuladditionifyouwanttoevaluatea
singleportionofasurfaceatalocation.Itconsidersasetofcurveswhichlieonasurfaceandevaluates
thecurvesindividually.

LineprofilecurrentlyonlyworkswithCADfaces,notSAobjects
Youmustassociateadirectionobject(SAobject)withthelineprofileannotationbeforecreating
thefeaturecheckobjectthisdirectionobjectdefinesthedirectionalongwhichthedatais
dividedintocrosssectionsforanalysis
o Ifyouassociatemultipledirectionobjects,itusestheaverageoftheirdirection
LineProfileannotationscanbeimportedwithCADbutadirectionobject(SAobject)mustbe

LineProfileEvaluationProcesswithinSA:

Positioncheckscanbedividedinto2types:
Thezonewithinwhichthecenter,axis,orcenterplaneofafeaturesispermittedtovery
fromthenominal
Aboundary(MMCorLMCbasis)definedasavirtualconditionlocatedatthetheoretical
positionthatmaynotbeviolated.

Positionchecksarechecksthatestablishthepositionofameasuredfeatureandcompareittothetrue
positionofthenominalfeature,evaluatingifitiswithinthespecifiedtolerance.Positioncheckscanbe
establishedformanyotherdatumfeaturessuchasslots,lines,andsurfaces.However,positionchecks
areevaluatedeitherrelativetoacenterpoint,anaxisoraplanetoestablishposition.

Cylindersareacomplexfeaturethancanevaluatedineitherof4ways.WithinSAthisevaluation
methodisassignedautomaticallybaseduponthenumberofpointsmeasuredbutcanalsobespecified.

CylindricalFeatures:
Projected2Devaluations:
1. TransAxisCenterPositionMeasurements:Asinglepointmeasurement,orthe
averagepointfromasetofmeasurements,isprojectedalongthenominalaxisof
thecylindricalfeatureandthedistancebetweenthissinglepointandthenominal
pointevaluatedasastraightline2Ddistanceonthenominalplanarsurface.

2. CenterandDiameteratNominalDirection:Measurementsofthediametera
cylindricalfeatureareprojectedalongthenominalaxistothenominalplanar
surface.Acircleisfittothesemeasurementsanditscenterpointdefined.The
straightline2Ddistancebetweenthismeasuredcenterpointandthenominal
centerisevaluated.


Axisor3Devaluations:
3. CenterandSurfaceAxisMeasurements:Twoormorepointsareusedtodefinean
axis,assumedtobetakenatvariousdistancesalongitslength.Thediameterofa

cylinderalongthenominalaxiscontainingthemeasuredaxisdefinitionisusedto
evaluatethepositionofthefeature.

4. FullCylinderEvaluation:Whenaminimumof10pointsareobtainedafullcylinder
fitcanbeperformed.Measurementsareassumedtobetakenfromtheextentsof
thecylindricalfeature.Ameasuredcylinderisestablishedanditsaxisiscompared
tothenominalaxisforevaluation.

PositionChecksmusthaveadatumassociatedtobecorrectlyevaluated.
WhenspecifyingaMMCorLMCpositiontoleranceasecondannotationmustalso
beincludedonthesamefeaturetospecifythenominaldimension.Ifyoudonotan
errorNosizetolerancesdefinedforfeaturewillbeseen.Thissecondannotation
willbeautomaticallyrecognizedandincludedintheevaluation.
Coaxialandcoplanardatumscanbespecifiedwithadashasin:A|BC|D

Wedonotoffera"coaxiality"checkspecificallybutrathersupportitsevaluationthroughapositional
tolerance.InevaluatingtheTruePositionofafeaturerelativetoasingledatumaxisyouareessentially
checkingthecoaxialityofthatfeaturerelativetothatdatum.

CompositeTruePositionCheck:
CompositeTruePositionChecksprovideameanstoevaluatethepositionofapatternoffeaturesand
combinethatwithatighterevaluationofthepositionofeachfeaturerelativetoeachotherfeature
withinasinglecheck.

CompoundversesCompositePosition:
WhatmakesCompositeTruePositionchecksuniquefromtwoseparatepositionchecksisthat
compositechecksprovideagreaterdegreeoffreedominthelowersegmentcheckthanwould
beallowedthroughasecondarycheck.Consideracompositechecklikethis:
