For its second installment, the annual

iPadayag Film Festival was held successful

for a month-long activity with over 200
junior and senior high FU students who
participated in the said event. In-line in the
College of Arts and Sciences Month
Celebration, the event was hosted by the
Broadcast Communication students.

The iPadayag Film Festival, from the

cebuano word ipadayag means to
showcase, is a short film competition of
young filmmakers that encourages
participants to use iPad as the only tool for
filming and editing. This year, with the
theme, Keeping up with the millennials,
participants must tell the stories and issues
concerning their generation, the millennials.

To prep for the production, a workshop was

conducted last September 8 from the
aspects of writing, cinematography and
acting. The participants were given two
weeks for production as the screening/
awarding is slated for September 27 at the
Sofia Soller Sinco Hall.

With a limited time only, we planned for a

better idea to come up with a film. First, it
was challenging in a sense that we are first
timers and we encounter conflicts and
difficulties. And second, we dont have any
budget for making this film, Glennifer
Krystel Gocotano, director of the film,
Paglaum, said. Gocotano admitted that
after the event, she learned a lot about film
from developing the characters to film
technicalities.

What we also develop is teamwork. To

work as a team, and assign every person
for a task. And everyone should support
one another because a film will not be a film
without the people working hard together
for it, Gocotano added.

10 films were screened at the awarding day.

The film, Playlist, took most of the award for
Best Film, Best Cinematography and Best
Actor for Jestoni Cuadra. The Best Actress
goes to Carina Simpao from the film,
Barkada, Best Director to Glennifer Krystel
Gocotano from the film, Paglaum and the
Originality Award to the film, Sino ang
Salarin?.

Rhynard Patron, of Playlist, admitted that it

was not their first time in making a film, but
first time in joining a competition and was
amazed after bragging three awards.

Wow! Like super wow! It was very

unexpected. It was a nice feeling where I
cant sleep after the event. Our hardwork
resulted and we are so happy with the
team, Patron said.

Juliet Cuizon, who served as one of the

adjucators, qualified the films, Playlist and
Paglaum, for the upcoming Lutas Film
Festival, a regional film competition, whom
Cuizon is a festival director.

I am beyond amazed with the passion and

dedication shown by junior and senior high
students in creating such films. I only wish
that they will continue to create and
produce films to help preserve the stories of
our locality, Cuizon said.

Foundation University has been the

pioneering academic institution to utilise the
iPad as the primary tool in the classroom
setting. For 7 years, the iPad program grew
to a success. The university is also the
pioneering institution to spearhead the film
studies through the course of AB
Broadcasting, and is evidently successful
through recent achievements.
