AUTOMATED AIRLINE RESERVATION SYSTEM

STRATEGIC PLAN

The AUTOMATED AIRLINE RESERVATION SYSTEM is a software application to


assist an airline with transactions related to making ticket reservations, which includes
blocking, reserving, cancelling and rescheduling tickets.

Minimize repetitive work done by the system administrator and reservation clerks.
Maintain consistency among different access modes, e.g. by phone, by web, at the
information desk and across different physical locations. The users should be basically
taken through the same steps by the system as they go through in conventional desk-
reservation systems.
Maintain customer information in case of emergency, e.g. flight cancellation due to
inclement weather. The profile can also be used by the airline company to track user
preferences and travel patterns to serve them better, plan routes, for better marketing
and efficient scheduling of flights.
Reduce effort and frustration for travelers in scheduling a trip, especially by reducing
the search effort for the flight they need to take.
Show all possible combinations and itineraries available for a pair of origin-destination
cities.
Reduce redundancy in the information required from the customers in order for them
to buy tickets, create user accounts etc.
Check the validity of input data and give a feedback to the user in case of errors or
inconsistency.
Make it easy for travelers to check the ticket status or make changes to their trip.
The airline's emphasis on the latest information and electronic technology, and its stress
on comfort, convenience, safety and customer service, will be cornerstones on which
the marketing strategy will be built.
Set publicized discounts for early reservations and purchasing tickets in advance,
online, electronically. Seasonal and certain peak-period adjustments to the basic fares,
infant and child discounts based on the original fare is our pricing strategy.

SCOPE OF WORK

This software provides options for viewing different flights available with different timings
for a particular date and provides customers with the facility to book a ticket, modify or
cancel a particular reservation but it does not provide the customers with details of cost of
the ticket and it does not allow the customer to modify a particular part of his reservation
and he/she can modify all his details.

It can be used in any Travel Agency for maintenance of details about various modules
discussed further.
Reducing the process time.
Assures security and validity.
Emphasis on accurate data.
User friendly interface which can be used by any user.
Storing large amount of data for future point of view.

BUSINESS NEED
The system enables the customer to do the things such as search for airline flights for
two travel cities on a specified date, choose a flight based on the details, reservation of
flight and cancellation of reservation.

The system allows the airline passenger to search for flights that are available between
the two travel cities, namely the Departure city and Arrival city for a particular
departure and arrival dates.

After search the system display list of available flights and allows customer to choose
a particular flight. Then the system checks for the availability of seats on the flight.
To book a flight the system asks the customer to enter his details such as name, address,
city, state and credit card number and contact number. Then it checks the validity of
card and book the flight and update the airline database and user database. The system
also allows the customer to cancel his/her reservation, if any problem occurs.

PERIOD OF PERFORMANCE

The period of performance for the Website design Project is four months beginning in May
2016 through August 2016. All work must be scheduled to complete within this timeframe.
Any modifications or extensions will be requested through Text Message and President
contracting members for review and discussion.

The selected member for the Website design project will perform a majority of the work at
its own facility. All the members will be required to meet at college once per week (day
and time) for a weekly status meeting. Additionally, all project gate reviews will be held
at college and attended by all. Head of the group will provide and arrange for meeting
spaces within its facility for all required meetings.

APPLICABLE STANDARDS
Clearly describe the element of the Contractors service that will be measured.

ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA

Acceptance includes the activities that take place to convert the older system to the newer
one. The new system may be totally new or replacing an existing system. In either case,
proper implementation is essential to provide a reliable system to meet organizational
requirements. The different parts of the system are interacting with each other to give us a
feasible software solution.
A crucial phase in the system life cycle is the successful acceptance of the new system
design. It is primarily concerned with user training, site preparation and file conversions.
The final communications and links to other modules and hardware components are
established to make the website operative. After that the website is run with live data
otherwise a diagnostic.

Technologies to be used
JSP and Servlets are being used for developing the web pages. Glass Fish/ Apache
Tomcat will be used to compile these pages.
Java is being used for logic development for the project.
Java Script is being used for Client Side Validation.
HTML, CSS for designing the web pages.
JQuery for animation.
MySQL Server is being used for managing the database at server side.

Microsoft Windows XP or Higher/ Linux.
