Many Ways to Look at Peter Pan
A
Wikipedia article entitled List of Works Based on Peter Pan itemizes scores of adaptations, reinterpretations,
sequels, prequels and spin-offs tied to J.M. Barries storyin books, plays and musicals, movies, television
series, video games and other media. Theres even a pop-psychology concept called the Peter Pan Syndrome,
referring to older men whose emotional lives have remained at an adolescent level. Having spawned so
many cultural offspring, Barries tale of the boy who wouldnt grow up might reasonably be said to have
entered the realm of myth in modern-day Western society: a figurative story that helps us explain to ourselves who we
are and what we value.
