1 Introduction
We would like to thank you for your decision to purchase this Haag-Streit product. If the instructions in this manual
are carefully followed we are confident that this product will give you reliable and trouble-free usage.

2 Instructions for Use

Please refer to the IFU Instructions for Use of the corresponding instrument.

3 Octopus 900
3.1 Connecting and Updating the Octopus 900
The Octopus 900 has the default IP address 172.16.42.32. Commands are sent from the PC to the Octopus using
the TCP protocol. The video stream from the Octopus is transmitted from the Octopus 900 to the PC using the UDP
protocol, port 49153.
To change the IP address of the Octopus 900 you need to establish a connection to the Octopus 900 first. Therefore
disconnect the switch that connects your PC with the Octopus 900 from the rest of the network and configure your
computer to be in the same address range as the Octopus. To change your PCs network address go to the Windows
Control Panel, section Network connection, and modify your active Local area connection to match the default
address range of the Octopus 900: The Octopus 900 has the default address 172.16.42.32 and you should choose
any other address with the format 172.16.nnn.mmm with the subnet mask 255.255.0.0.nnn and mmm can be any
number between 1 and 254.
Refer to the network schematics in the addendum if you want suggestions for network addresses?
Dont forget to reconfigure the PC and reconnect the switch once the network address of the Octopus 900 has
been set to the final IP number.
WARNING!
The UDP video stream takes a considerable amount of the network bandwidth; therefore a 100Mbs
switch is delivered with every O 900. This switch must be installed between the controlling PC and the
Ethernet wallplug (the connection to the network).
Never connect the O 900 directly to the network, the network may become slow or even hang.
3.1.1 Resetting the IP address and port
If the IP address of the Octopus 900 has accidentally been changed or is not known, it is not possible to establish
connection to the instrument. In this case the instrument has to be reset to the original IP address 172.16.42.32. To
do so keep the following 3 buttons pressed while turning on the instrument and keep them pushed until you heard at
least 3 beep sounds.

3.1.2 Setting the IP address and ports

NOTE!
Every PC with EyeSuite Perimetry within the same network potentially is able to connect to the Octopus
900. To prevent unintended remote control and image data flow in the network, change the Octopus 900
IP address prior to the connection with any network.
To configure the Octopus 900 you might need to temporarily change the IP address of your PC to 172.16.nnn.mmm.
The change of the IP address requires Administrator rights and can be done under "Network Connections". Please
contact the responsible person for your network to define the final static IP address of your Octopus 900.
Please refer to your computer's operating system manual for further details on setting the computers IP address.
To change the IP address of the Octopus 900
1. Make sure your computer's IP address is in the same range as the Octopus 900's IP address
2. Connect the Octopus 900 and your PC via the 100Mbs switch, delivered with the O 900, using straight Ethernet
cables.
3. Run EyeSuite, go to "Perimetry", "Service / Diangostic".

Fig. 2
4. Tab "Connection", then click "Connect to OCTOPUS" then Read from OCTOPUS.

In this case please proceed with the section 3.3, Firewall/Troubleshooting Eye Image Issues

3.2 Function tests

3.2.1 Monitoring the state of the instrument

To perform simple tests like the function of the response button or head position recognition go to "Perimetry",
"Service / Diagnostic", "Monitoring". All switch positions and the camera image is shown online.

Fig. 14

3.2.2 Actively performing functional tests

Using the built in test functions easily allows to check the basic functionality of the instrument for calibration and
verification.

Fig. 15
Some of the functional tests are described in the service manual. If they have been used for any other reason, the
instrument will not allow regular examinations until it is turned off and back on again.

3.3 Firewall/Troubleshooting Eye Image Issues

We recommend installing an AntiVirus software on all computers. Even PCs without internet access can easily be
infected by USB memory sticks and this can cause reliability issues and lead to functional errors of the system.
We did test EyeSuite and MySQL in connection with the security software F-Secure InternetSecurity and AntiVirus
2010 and McAfee VirusScan Enterprise Edition 8.7i (not the home edition; the latter did not provide sufficient
individual settings).

EYESUITE | PERIMETRY SETUP MANUAL Contents

In general, the Windows Firewall does a good job and no second firewall is needed. If there is a second firewall
installed, you need to open the same ports in the Windows and in your security software firewalls.
NOTE!
Only change firewall settings for those ports that dont show the required function. Default ports are:
TCP port 49153 for controlling the Octopus 900
UDP port 49153 for displaying the eye image on the PC
TCP port 3306/3307on a server to grant network access
TCP port 21 if you use FTP to transfer Octopus 300 data
3.3.1 No eye video image in the Octopus 900
Possible reasons for the eye image of the Octopus 900 not showing on the PC are:
a) Firewall settings not according to our recommendation: UDP Port 49153 must be open
b) The port UDP 49153 is blocked by an additional firewall, eg a firewall integrated in an Internet security or
Antivirus solution add a port exception in this software too
c) A different software uses the UDP port 49153:
This may be in connection with the message:
eye / -1 com.hs.eyesuite.ext.extperimetry.ifocto
Address alredy in use. Cannot bind:
To change the port, see the section 1.1.1 but change the port number e.g. to 49'170 instead of changing
the IP number.
The command netstat a n identifies assigned ports on your computer
d) You use a VPN or other software that blocks this port
e) You turned on the Allow other users to connect to the internet through my computer option
f) You are not using the 100M switch delivered with the Octopus 900 to separate network traffic between the
Octopus 900 and the control PC from the rest of the network traffic.
g) You did not turn off the Power save mode of the Ethernet interface
h) The network speed is set to 10MB/s. Since you need 100MB/s you may need to set the hardware parameters
of the network card to 100MB/s Full Duplex.
i) You have made the firewall exclusions multiple times and possibly on different levels. In this case, delete all
exceptions, restart EyeSuite and start a regular examination to see the Windows firewall exception screen
again. Proceed as described in the Octopus 900 setup addendum.
j) You have a Logitech or other camera vendor software installed and the option not to show video stream
warnings is activated. Turn the option off or uninstall that software.
