LOGARITHM PRODUCT DESCRIPTION


The LogARithm is a Window Client / Server application suite. The purpose of the system
is to receive and process logging records that are sent from the network, store these records
in a repository, and provide a number of management and monitoring tools based on the
received information.

The collector or LogARithm Server application, communicates with the Meganac /


IntelliNAC Verifone Network and is capable of handling volumes of up to 50 million
records a day, depending on the speed and performance of the underlying hardware and
CPU. The server application is able to maintain running totals of the records that it collects
(SQL/CSV database) and a list of the received records as they are processed in real time.

A separate client application, LogARithm Client, allows client user access to specific
portions of the network and provides the capability of displaying various data based on the
received records.

A security system limits users ability to access the components. Server users must have
authorization for all configured networks. Client users can be authorized for all networks or
a single network. Limited clients do not receive any information about unauthorized
networks.

The minimum Server system requirements are:

Hard disk requirements are dependent on the storage type used and amount of
traffic:
- CSV - 7,300 records per megabyte
- SQL Server - 5,000 records per megabyte
Microsoft Windows 2000 Server (Service Pack 4), Microsoft Windows XP
Professional, Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition, Microsoft
Windows Server 2008/2012, Microsoft Windows 7/8/8.1
Microsoft SQL ServerTM 2000 or later for SQL Server database support.

The minimum Client Requirements are:

The minimum Disk Space Requirement is:

The LogARithm application requires at least 92MB of free space on your system for
installation. The Server application requires 36MB of user-selected hard drive space.
The Client application requires 1.6MB of user-selected hard drive space.

SERVER APPLICAT ION

The LogARithm server provides a PC-based service for the collection of logging records
generated by Verifone Meganac / IntelliNAC network appliances. The program accepts
multiple connections from the network which have been configured to advertise a special
NII ending in 199 to 999. (NIIs must have 99 as the last two digits.) This special NII
serves as an indicator to the downlinks that records logging is available.

The downlinks send a logging record at the completion of each call, whether successful or
not. The record contains detailed information about the call that can be used to analyze

availability, monitor, and diagnose problems in the network, and provide usage statistics.

The program starts up with no default user interface. It creates an icon in the system tray
and runs unattended. By means of the system tray icon, the application provides operational
feedback in the form of pop-ups, which contain information, warning, or error messages. A
pop- up menu is provided which allows access to server functions.

CLIENT APPLICATION

The LogARithm Client connects to the server providing a user interface for viewing
collected statistics and monitoring configurable statistical thresholds. Verifone
recommends that you install the client on a separate workstation.

INSTALLING LOGARITHM CLIENT-SERVER

When installing LogARithm, you may choose to install the Client-Server or the Client. The
following instructions cover both installations.

1. Insert the CD in the CD-ROM drive. As soon as the system recognizes the CD, the
LogARithm installation browser launches:

2. Click Next>. The following License Agreement dialog box appears:

3. Please read and make a selection. Clicking I do not agree and/or Cancel will
terminate the installation process and exit you from the wizard.

4. Click Next. If you accept the license agreement terms, the Choose Components
dialog box appears as the installation process continues:

5. Select whether to install the Server and Client or just the Client alone.

6. Click Next. The choose install location dialog box appears.

7. Click Install to start the installation process.

8. The installation process may take a few minutes, but when finished the following

dialog box appears for the Client-Server.

9. The installation is complete. Click Finish to return to the desktop.

Note: The installation program creates a shortcut in the Startup folder and places
an icon on your desktop. This shortcut causes the server to startup automatically
whenever your system is restarted or powered up.

REGISTERING LOGARITHM SERVER


Note: In order to use the full functionality of the application, the server must be registered.
The first time you attempt to start the LogARithm server, during application initialization, a
warning appears if the application has not been registered:

If you choose not to register, the following warning message appears:

Demo Mode means that you have full functionality of the application, but the records are
not saved. However, if you choose to register at that time, the Register dialog box appears:

To register:

1. In the Register dialog box, enter the User Name and Key. Both are supplied by
Verifone.

2. Click OK. The following system message appears:

The server is now registered and the registration information is displayed on the
About Box.

Note: If you decide to register the server at a later time, you can access the Registration
dialog from the Help menu (Help > Register).

STARTING LOGARITHM SERVER


You can start the LogARithm server from the desktop icon or from the taskbar Start Menu.

To start the LogARithm server using the icon:

1. Double-click the LogARithm server icon located on your desktop to start the
program. During initialization, the following screens appear:

During this time, if the application is not registered, a system warning will appear. See page
7(NOTE) more details. Once you have satisfied the displayed warning, the Login button
appears on the screen:

2. Click Login. The Login screen appears:

3. Enter a valid User ID and password. The user must have authorization to view all
networks. Initially, the User ID will be ENGIN and the password is 12345.
Additional users can be added using Server Configuration Properties. This is
described in more detail in the online help.

4. Click OK. The server icon appears in the system tray. Click on the icon to open the
servers Status Window:

Using the Taskbar

To start the LogARithm server using the taskbar:

1. On the taskbar, click Start. The Start Menu appears.

2. On the Start menu, point to Programs. The Programs submenu appears.

3. On the Programs submenu, point to VeriFone or user-defined location. The VeriFone


submenu appears.

4. On the VeriFone submenu, point to LogARithm Client-Server. The LogARithm


Client- Server submenu appears.

5. On the LogARithm Client-Server submenu, click LogARithm Server to start the


program. The Logon dialog box appears.

6. Enter a valid User ID and password. Initially, this will be ENGIN and 12345.
The User ID is case sensitive.

STARTING LOGARITHM CLIENT


You can start the LogARithm Client from the desktop icon or the taskbar Start Menu.

Note: The LogARithm Server must be running prior to attempting to log into the
LogARithm Client.

Using the Desktop Icon

To start the LogARithm Client using the icon:

Double-click on the icon. The Login dialog box appears.

Review the server information. If incorrect, select a server from the drop-down list, if
available. It is recommended that the client be on a separate machine.

(The Local server in the graphic above is for illustrations purposes only.) To add or
delete a server, click the Edit Server Info checkbox. (See the procedures below.)

If server information is correct, deselect the Edit Server Info checkbox.

Enter your User ID and password.

Click OK. If successful, the LogARithm Client Status Window appears.

Editing a Server

To edit the login server information:

1. On the Login dialog box, select the Edit Server Info checkbox. The Server, Server
Address, and Server Port text boxes are now editable.

2. Select the server from the drop-down list, if available. If new, type in the server name.

3. Click Add. The new server name now appears in the drop-down list.

4. Enter the servers host name or IP address.

5. Enter the servers port and click Save.

6. If accepted, deselect the Edit Server Info checkbox and proceed with the login process.

Using the Taskbar

To start the LogARithm Client using the taskbar:

1. On the taskbar, click Start. The Start Menu appears.

2. On the Start menu, point to Programs. The Programs submenu appears.

3. On the Programs submenu, point to VeriFone or user-defined location. The Verifone


submenu appears.

4. On the Verifone submenu, point to LogARithm Client-Server. The LogARithm Client-


Server submenu appears.

5. On the LogARithm Client-Server submenu, click LogARithm Client to start the


program. the Login dialog box appears.

6. Enter a valid server, username, and password. Initially, the User ID and password will be
ENGIN and 12345. The username is case sensitive.
