About FEA

FEA is a numerical technique for solving problems which are described by partial differential
equations or can be formulated as functional minimization. A domain of interest is represented as
an assembly of finite elements. Approximating functions in finite elements are determined in
terms of nodal values of a physical field which is sought. A continuous physical problem is
transformed into a discretized finite element problem with unknown nodal values. The major
steps in FEA are
o Pre processing
o Processing/Solution
o Post processing

Applicability of FEA at Various Stages in Design

FEA tools like ANSYS, Hypermesh are used in industry to solve real life problems at various
stages in design.
o Failure Verification
o Design Verification
o Concept Verification
Benefits of FEA in early stage of Design
o Reduced Product Development Time
o Increased Innovation
o Reduced Product Cost
o Reduced Development Cost
o Improved Product Quality

Expectations from FEA Engineer

A FEA engineer personal problem-solving environment is a fluid set of resources that enables
him or her to make qualified decisions on engineering issues that arise. As an engineers
experience base broadens, so does their problem-solving environment. Their personal problem-
solving environment includes their:
o Knowledge of the inputs (material, geometry, loads, history)
o Knowledge of the allowables (stress, displacement, frequencies)
o Knowledge of the physics involved (plasticity, fatigue, dynamics)
o Knowledge of past performance of similar systems
o Tools available to gather data (CAD, FEA, Testing)
o Knowledge and limitations of said tools
o Availability of resources to supplement the above

To fulfilling above expectations engineers require training from reputed institutes in this
area. Now a day, FEA is a compulsory subject in PG level and part of CAD/CAM subject at UG
level in most of universities. Therefore there is demand of FEA training from PG and UG
students as well as engineers from industry.

Limitations of FEA tools

A finite element solver simply processes data to provide a solution. It doesnt possess any
additional insight, cant prompt a user to consider other options, or in most cases, point out
flawed inputs. In a manner of speaking, your FEA solver trusts that you know what youre doing.
To many newer users, this may be one of its biggest limitations.
The very nature of FEA is to break a continuum into small sub-parts called elements to
make the math reasonable so a solution can be reached efficiently. The validity of the solution is
dependent upon the size, shape, and type of the elements used. ANSYS Classes in Pune

Ansys Training

ANSYS software is used to simulate correspondent of all disciplines of physics, structural,

vibration, fluid dynamics, heat transfer and electromagnetic for engineers.

ANSYS can import CAD data and also enables to build a geometry with its "pre-processing"
abilities. Similarly in the same pre-processor, finite element model (a.k.a. mesh) which is
required for computation is generated. After defining loadings and carrying out analyses, results
can be viewed as numerical and graphical.
