Abstract: Communication is an important component in patient care. Doctor-patient

communication is a concern lately for both doctor and patient alike. A good communication has the role
to improve the treatment and the psychological support given by the doctor. Improving communication
relationship between doctor and patient can have significant benefits over the patients health condition.
The present study aims to assess the qualitative aspect of doctor-patient communication from the
hospitalized patients point of view in order to improve the doctor-patient relationship. The study was
conducted using a questionnaire with 17 questions of which 10 questions focused on doctor-patient
communication. After processing the data we noticed that the doctors attitude, courtesy and availability
were assessed at good and very good levels. The patients appreciate the quality of the communication
with the doctor, thus their satisfaction is closely related to the clarity of the information received.
Moreover, the fact that most patients questioned would choose the same clinic in case of a
rehospitalization also reflects a high degree of patient satisfaction. A good doctor-patient communication
offers many benefits to patients and the literature clearly shows a correlation between an efficient
communication and health improvement (pain control, blood pressure, pulse, respiration and blood
sugar concentration).
Key words: communication, satisfaction, patient, doctor, hospital.
