D. Human Resources Involved : Teacher adviser, Grade VI pupils, stakeholders
E. Beneficiary : Grade VI pupils, Kinder to Grade V
F. Duration : June, 2014 to March, 2015
G. Rationale :
Vegetable gardening is a very rewarding endeavour. Ideally, this activity is
undertaken in school to support school program needs and use vacant site and available
resources to the fullest.
In 2007, DepEd released Memo # 293 Gulayan sa Paaralan encouraging
increase public awareness in health and nutrition especially among pupils, teachers and
parents. The following year, Dep Ed Memo # 234, s 2008, which encouraged the planting
of malunggay (moringa) trees in school was issued by then Secretary of Education Jeslie
Lapuz which complemented Gulayan sa Paaralan. Malalinta Elementary School
sustains these initiatives as it adopts containerized gardening and developed malunggay
park. As a result, the said school garnered second and third place in the competition on
the best implementer of Gulayan sa Paaralan and classroom gardening respectively. This
is a search launched by the district in partnership with the Department of Agriculture
(municipal level). For this school year 2014, Malalinta Elementary School aims to
surpass the said awards.
In this light, the implementer thought of embarking on a long plan income
generating project as a means of maintaining and sustaining the program. Most
importantly to raise funds for the improvement of the herbal garden nook of the school.
H. Purposes and Objectives
1. To build an understanding of and respect for nature and our environment.
2. To motivate pupils to eat vegetables.
3. To provide opportunities for hands-on learning, inquiry, observation and
experimentation.
4. To promote physical activity and quality outdoor experiences.
5. To teach pupils to nurture and care for other living things while developing patience.
6. To develop appreciation of the pupils the importance of agriculture in their life as a
source of food and income.
7. To provide an opportunity for inculcating among the pupils the value of work,
industry and caring for the environment.
8. To have an alternative source of food for the schools feeding program.
9. To experience earning money for the improvement of the herbal garden shade.
