ABSTRACT
The objective of this research was to investigate the type of Attitude and how
Attitude employed in Nara Masista Right of Reply Speech. This research used the
Appraisal Theory Analysis (Martin and White, 2005) and focused on Attitude
subsystem which consists of Affect, Judgment, and Appreciation. Qualitative method
was employed in this research in particularly content analysis. Due to answer the
research question, the data gain was taken from the speech transcription. The data
was classified using coding on each clause and interpreted according to the Attitude
domain. The result of Attitude analysis found 67 clauses which consist of 17 Affects,
32 Judgements, and 18 Appreciations. The negative attitudes were highest than the
positive attitude. Moreover, the use of Negative Judgements dominates the
percentage of Attitude employed to counter the issue brought by Asia Pacific country.
Meanwhile, the use of positive Appreciation and Affect employed to represent
Indonesia as a good country, respected and appraised the Leader in the UN General
Assembly. The study revealed that the speaker highly affirmative in tackling
statements politically show that Indonesia is a dignified country.
