Lesson Plan in Mathematics 8

Dates: October 23 27, 2017
I. Intended Learning Outcomes:
At the end of the 5 hour period 95% of the learners are expected to:
1. Differentiate function from relation;
2. Identify the domain and range;
3. Express relation & function by mapping, ordered pairs, table of values, graphs or equation;
4. Evaluate function;
5. Exhibit organization in solving problems; and
5. Participate actively in a collaborative activity.
II. Learning Content:
1. Topic: Function and Relation
2. References: Ulpina J. et.al. (2017). Math Builders 8.
Quezon City: Brilliant Creations Publishing, pp 141 - 153
3. Essential Questions:
a. What are the differences between function and relation?
b. How do you identify the domain and range of the function and relations?
c. What are the different ways to express function and relation?
d. How do you evaluate function and relation?
e. What are the applications of function and relation in real-life?
4. Enduring Understanding:
Functions and relations can be expressed by mapping, ordered pairs, table of values,
graphs or equation to model and solve real-life problems.
5. Values: Objectivity, accuracy, and perseverance
6. Subject Integration: Science (Physics) & AP (Geography)
III. Materials:
1. Visual Aids
2. Marker
3. Cartesian Coordinate Plane
4. Graphing Paper
IV. Learning Experiences:
1. Daily Routine
a. Prayer
b. Greetings
c. Checking of Attendance
d. Reminders
2. Lesson Proper
a. Introduction
KWL: After the teacher introduced the words related to the new lesson, the learners
will answer the What I Know and What I Want To Know entries of the KWL Chart.
Motivation
The students will guess the relationship given the sets of data by writing their
answers on sheet of paper.
- Megacorporations Founders
- Celebrities Famous Movies
- Countries Landmarks
- Provinces Festivals
- Artists Famous Artworks
Discussion
The teacher will check the answers of the learners. Out of their answers the
teacher will introduce the function and relation.
The teacher will show different ways on how to represent functions and relations
- Mapping
- Ordered Pairs
- Table of Values
- Graphs
- Equations
The students will evaluate the given equation to complete table of values and
graph the function and relation.
b. Interaction
The learners will be grouped and each group is tasked to identify which among the
given sets of data are functions and relations.
Each group will present their answers on the board.
The students will answer the Group Guided Practice pp. 147 - 150
c. Integration
The learners will be tasked to identify which among the given sets of data are
functions and relations.
- Graph of Temperature and Volume
- Graph of Population Growth
- Mapping Diagram of the Philippine Presidents and First Ladies
-Table of Values for Income Tax
The learners will transform the given sets of data into ordered pairs and graph
them in the Cartesian coordinate plane.
V. Evaluation:
The students will answer Skill Booster A & B pg 151
