Our business plan is going to cover the personal and professional wellness opportunities
within our company. As a group, we each chose a risk factor that affects the environment and
discussed its effects on peoples health and wellness. Each group member shared their personal
work experiences. If they worked in a company with negative environmental factors, it was
mentioned how they hope to work with people to decrease environmental effects like sickness or
disease. We chose to focus on three health factors: poor sanitation, lack of safety features in
manufacturing products, and lack of education about the spread of disease. In our business plan
for the company, we will explain these environmental factors and compare our thoughts and
experiences to help each other improve our health and quality of life.
important influence on health behaviors. ...the interaction between, and interdependence of,
factors within and across all levels of a health problem. It highlights peoples interactions with
their physical and sociocultural environments. (Rural Health, 2002, P. 1). The first risk factor
that will be discussed will be poor sanitation. Poor sanitation causes people to get sick with
diseases that are harmful to their health. As it was stated by WHO Director-General Dr. Margaret
Chan (2008), Sanitation is a cornerstone of public health (P. 1). Sanitation is an essential part
in keeping people safe from getting harmful diseases. The diseases linked to poor sanitation are
mostly related to people who live in poverty. These people do not have the proper resources or
education to stay safe and clean by washing their hands with water and soap. Another factor
would be not know how to properly wash hands to ensure clean hands.
Lack of education about the spread of diseases is an environmental factor that affects
people who have low access to educational agencies, such places as Africa. People who live in
Africa may not have access to education, or to people who could teach them the proper way to

clean their hands or sanitize equipment at home. The lack of education increases their chances of
catching diseases and spreading them to each other. Since many environments produce a
mixture or positive and negative health outcomes, the health-promotive quality of a setting
ultimately depends on its capacity to support those health outcomes most desirable and important
to its members while eliminating or ameliorating those clearly most negative and detrimental to
individual and social well-being (Stokols & Jamner, 2000, p. 139). The World Health
Organization will work towards finding a solution to solve and end the spread of diseases before
they occur, by creating an educational center in Africa and other places to educate them of this
cause and eliminate the spread of diseases. In many communities we could offer classes that
would educate other about the spread of diseases. Another option could be flyers placed in

its work within our community. Each member has a contributing skill that will be a benefit to the
company, so each skill will make a positive change in the company. We will also aim to improve
the health of people to live healthier lifestyles and give them tips to avoid risk factors that might
greatly affect their wellness. There are many strategies that will overcome the obstacles to these
