Notable quotes!
1. being transparently honest before God and before man was necessary if we were to
make progress hearing Gods voice. Id seen for myself how Gods power was released after
a time of cleansing, and I remembered that in every great historical move of the Spirit I had
studied, every revival had experienced times of confession and deep repentance. I could see
why, too. The cleansing season had set me free the devil had none of my secret
resentments and sins to hold over me anymore. (108)

Why do you think Loren believed that transparency and confession was directly
related to hearing Gods voice?

2. I wish with all my heart that Id known early enough to prevent the pain one most
important principle of guidance: The Lord will lead us into victory, but success itself is the most
dangerous obstacle to properly hearing the voice of God. (115)

What do you think Loren means by success being the most dangerous obstacle
to properly hearing the voice of God?

3. Yes, God had told us to get a ship, and repeatedly He had confirmed His guidance, using
all the ways we had learned for hearing His voice. He used the Wise Men Principle; He used
scriptures that He seemed to lift off the pages for us; He used provision of money and
people; and that inner conviction but we had failed in the way we had carried out His
guidance. We had subtly turned from the Giver to the gift (134)

What do you think Loren could have done in order avoid his mistakes in
pursuing the ship?

Think About It

1. Loren devotes a couple of chapters to a large and public failure, the pursuit
of purchasing the Maori. Why do you think Loren included this story in the
book? What might he wish we learn from it?

2. During the Munich Olympics, the YWAMers were met with people not caring
about spiritual concerns. They were far too focused on the idolatry of sports.
What sort of things have distracted you from focusing on God? Have you
taken any means of giving God His rightful place in your life?

3. Have you ever used the axhead principle in your own life? If so, please share.
If not, how can you see this principle being used in your walk with God?
