Introductory Activity
(Time allotted- )

Description of learning tasks: 1) Organizational diagram(s):

Review routes:
On laptop mini interactive activity
- Chose a student to draw a route on the laptop 2) Instructional cues:
and state what route it is and describe where
the ball should be thrown so the WR will have
the best chance of catching the ball
- Have students identify the distance in which 3) Questions to ask:
each route is used for
- At what distance are each of these
routes used? (short, intermediate,
deep)
- What does a slant look like?
- What does a fly look like?
- What does a curl look like?

Lesson Focus
(Time allotted- )

Description of learning tasks: 1) Organizational diagram(s):

Walk and talk:
- Find a partner and take a lap(gym)/walk to
sideline(field) and talk about what you/partner 2) Instructional cues:
knows about backpedaling, interception, blitz, Backpeddling
swat, fumble. - Angle- torso should be over the knee
- Support- feet should be hips width apart
Review routes/defense - Eyes up- find the ball/your WR
- Groups of 4 - Push
- Qb tells WR what route to run
- Defender tries to prevent WR from catching
the ball 3) Questions to ask:
- What is backpedaling?
Backpedaling, swatting, and Interception: - Interception?
- Groups of 4 - When/why would a defense decide to blitz?

3
Central CT State University Physical Education Lesson Plan

- Defender will backpedal and QB will throw - Swat?

the ball and the defender will jump and swat - Fumble?
the ball - As a defense what are you trying to prevent
- Students will alternate until they are told to the defense from doing?
freeze - Different defenses that are played?
- As students backpedal they will now try to
catch a thrown ball from the QB and run back
in the direction the ball was thrown.
Blitzing
- Group of 4
- 1 QB, 1 WR, 1 DB, 1 Pass rusher
- QB will try to throw to their receiver without
being tagged.
- QB can not run past line of scrimmage.
- Blitzer may jump to swat the ball but try not
to jump into QB.

Differentiated Instruction:
Simplified
- if students are having difficulty throwing when there is a pass rusher, you could
eliminate the pass rusher.

Challenge
- add a pass rusher and eliminate a WR so QB has less options/time to throw the ball.

Accommodation: Adapting for Special Needs

Student with hearing impairment may use signals as QB cadence. Student may draw the route
they want their WR to run on their hand or on the ground

Culminating Activity
(Time allotted- )

Description of learning tasks: 1) Organizational diagram(s):

Mini Game:
- keep score when blitzing
- 3pts if pass rusher sacks the QB, 1pt if ball is 2) Instructional cues:
swatted by pass rusher or defender, or
incomplete pass 2pts if QB completes a pass
to WR. 2pts if WR catches pass, 2 pts if ball is 3) Questions to ask:

Closure:
Ok every one I have a few questions before we end class today. What are two ways as a defender can make a
play at the ball?( swatting, Interception). What does the QB have to do to ensure they get the ball to their WR
even though they have someone rushing them? (make quick decisions because they have less time to throw)
