ABSTRACT
Within the context of the European Commissions Horizon 2020 programme, it bringing together
high performing and low performing countries for the establishment of a Centre of Excellence.
SMARTAgriFor consists of a one-year project aimed to develop an extensive, detailed and robust
business plan for the setup of a Centre of Excellence in agriculture and forestry. The
SMARTAgriFor project aims to have an international impact, but will benefit from the involvement
of all national agri-food and forestry stakeholders, including those located in the North of Portugal.
The current project is aligned with SMARTAgriFor and proposes a number of relevant actions to
support the development of SMARTAgriFor and the full involvement of Northern stakeholders in
the project, for the benefit of the stakeholders and the envisioned Centre.

The project Promoting Agri-food and Forestry Stakeholder Engagement for Knowledge Transfer
and SMARTAgriFor partnerships was implemented by the four SMARTAgriFor universities from the
North of Portugal: Universidade de Trs-os-Montes e Alto Douro (UTAD), Universidade Catlica
Portuguesa (UCP), Universidade do Porto (UP) and Universidade do Minho (UM). The main
objective of the project is to promote, through a series of initiatives, agri-food and forestry based
stakeholder engagement, with the aim of identifying R&D needs across multiple value chains, to
transfer knowledge onto stakeholders and to establish strategic partnerships for the benefit of
stakeholders and SMARTAgriFor. The project includes a total of five actions, which are aligned
with the five specific project objectives. Furthermore, each action consists of different activities
that support the development of the project.
