TITLE OF THE PROGRAM : INTEGRATED TROPICAL LIVESTOCK PRODUCTION AND TECHNOLOGY

BRIEF DESCRIPTIONS OF PROGRAM

Our summer course program is open for those who want to study for degree credit, career
advancement, or personal enrichment. We offer summer course program of Integrated Tropical
Livestock Production and Technology.

EXPECTED COMPETENCIES FROM THE PROGRAM

Students will be able to understand, describe, analyze and implement indigenous tropical animal
genetic resources of Indonesia including prospective animal, poultry, dairy, meat livestock, their
production on integrated crop livestock system , post harvest and processing.

PROGRAM STRUCTURE
1. Curriculum structure
The is equal to 1 credit (0-3) , 1 credit for general lecture and practicum or field study

2. List of topics
There are four topics offered:
- Integrated Tropical Livestock Production,
- Indigenous Animal Genetic Resources,
- Native Poultry Farming, and
- Local Livestock Product Processing

IMPLEMENTATION PLAN

The program is offered for every year. The course will be conducted by combination of classical
teaching in the class room, group work, and laboratory practices/practical session. Study visit to
related institutions also be scheduled.
PROGRAM DURATION

The lecture in the class will be carried out for 2 week (14 days)
Every August

COST
Travel cost, insurance and accommodation should cover by applicant or scholarship
Academic cost in host is covered by IPB
If any budget, IPB and sponsor will cover for accommodation and living cost

INTEGRATED TROPICAL LIVESTOCK PRODUCTION AND TECHNOLOGY

INTEGRATED TROPICAL LIVESTOCK PRODUCTION AND TECHNOLOGY summer course program

is a program designed to provide undergraduate students to learn about ptinciples, concept,
and development of integrated tropical livestock production and technology. Students in this
program will take various of classes offered in english, consisted of integrated tropical livestock
of animal production, indigeneous animal genetic resources, local poultry production in the
tropics, and loca livestock product processing. There will practical classes and field studies on
every course for students.

The course will be organized as a two week summer course (14 August 25 August 2017). The
course will be filled with lectures, practical class, and field studies.

The course will be thought by several lectures are:

1. Integrated Tropical Livestock Production
This cousre will describe concept of integrated livestock farming, definition and
development of livestock production using system approach, classification and
characteristics of integrated livestock production, biological, technic, and economic
efficiency in tropical animal production, specifically on: 1) dairy, 2) meat 3)
prospective animal

2. Indigenous Animal Genetic Resources

This course will describe the biodiversity of Indigenous Animal Genetic Resources,
charateristic distribution, the improvement that it has been conducted with
conventional and molecular approach to improve the genetic merit.

3. Local Poultry Production in The Tropics

This Course will describe definition of local poultry genetic resources (chickens, ducks
and pigeons) in the tropics and their utilization and role for local community, the unique
characters and biology of local poultry adapted to tropical climate, the diversity of
production system of local poultry related to geography and culture in the tropics.

4. Local Livestock Product Processing

Descrpition and explaination of the variety Indonesian livestock product processing
technics and the quality of livestock products will be thought on this course.
