RAHRC Laser Novice training

Introducing the fast track Laser novice training option
To start your using the sailing equipment at the RAHRC and to participate in the sailing events, the
club requires you obtain a Laser sailing ticket. Unless you already have relevant sailing experience, it
takes a 4-day intensive laser novice sailing course to acquire the minimum skills required for your
safe and enjoyable use of the clubs equipment.

The clubs Laser sailing section offers novice sailing courses. These courses are provided by a few
instructor members who are supported by volunteers. Due to class size restrictions and the number of
available training days per year, the total number of novice training students we can train per year is
around 40. The restricted training capacity means that there is a long waiting time for most people
wishing to start sailing.

Because we are all keen to get every club member who is interested in sailing out on the water as
soon as possible, we are pleased to offer a fast track novice sailing training path in collaboration with
Oman Sail.

The fast track training route consists of:

A Level 1 plus a Level 2 dinghy sailing course
at Oman Sail a total of 4 days of training;
A RAHRC Laser sailing ticket check a 1 day
induction to sailing at the club by one of our
instructors. Once you completed the Oman Sail
level 2 course, we would aim to complete your
ticket check within 3 months from your applying
with us for the 1 day session. After completing
the ticket check, you will be given the PDO
Laser sailing ticket.

Whilst the Oman Sail courses are not for free, we have negotiated a 10% discount for PDO members
on dinghy sailing courses. These courses can be taken at any one of Oman Sails 4 sailing schools
located in:

Marina Bandha Al Rowdha

Millennium Hotel Mussanah
Al Mouj Marina
Sur Marina

The price for a 2-day course (group price) is:

Adults OMR 90 OMR 81 to PDO RAHRC Members
Children OMR 75 67.5 OMR to PDO RAHRC Members

Therefore, the Oman Sail fees for completing Level 1 and 2 together (4 days) is OMR 162 for Adults
and OMR 135 for children. In support of the fast track initiative, the RAHRC have decided to wave
the one-off payment of OMR 20 the club normally charges participants of sailing lessons at the club
if you completed the fast track training at Oman Sail. This bring the additional costs of learning to
sail using the fast track option to OMR 142 for adults and OMR 115 for children.

The fast track Oman Sail course offers RAHRC members a lot flexibility:
For groups of 3 or more PDO RAHRC member students, Oman Sail can make the course
exclusive to PDO members and tailor the contents somewhat towards the clubs needs;
If members wish to come separately, they can sign onto any course that is already planned
and will not have to wait for a group scheduling. Weekend courses are currently available
from mid-November onwards and the PDO RAHRC discount applies also to these course;
For members who are only available during weekend days, Oman Sail can provide the Level
1 and 2 courses over 2 weekends;
For members who are available during week days, Oman Sail can deliver the course during
week to a group of 3 or more people. These weekday courses can be scheduled to be 4 full
days or they could be spread over 8 mornings or afternoons to fit around your availability.
If you are not sure whether dinghy sailing is really for you and you dont want to commit to
all the expense immediately, you can initially sign up with Oman Sail to complete a Level 1
course and extend this later to add the level 2 course.
