The Prophet (saw) said: "When the first night of Ramadaan comes, the devils and mischievous jinn

are
chained up, and the gates of Hell are closed, and none of its gates are opened. The gates of Paradise are
opened and none of its gates are closed. And a caller cries out: 'O seeker of good, proceed; O seeker of
evil, desist!' And Allah has people whom He frees (from the Fire of Hell), and that happens every day."
(Tirmidhi)

Allah says in a Hadith Qudsi: "Fasting is for Me and I shall reward for it the person who abstains from his
sexual desire (and refrains from) eating and drinking for My sake. Fasting is a shield (against the Fire of
Hell); the fasting person has 2 moments of joy, 1 when he breaks his fast and 1 when he meets his Lord.
Indeed the odour that comes from the mouth of a fasting person is more pleasing to Me than the
fragrance of musk." (Bukhari)

A man burped whilst in the company of the Prophet (saw), so the Prophet (saw) said: "Keep your
burping away from us! Verily, the ones who fill their stomachs the most in the Dunya (this world) will
suffer the most from hunger on the Day of Judgement." (Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah, Al-Hakim)

A man asked the Prophet (saw): "My mother died suddenly and I think that if she could have spoken she
would have given in charity. Will I be rewarded if I spend in charity on her behalf?" He said, "Yes."
(Muslim) Nawawi (rh) said: This hadith indicates that it is permissible to give in charity on behalf of the
deceased and that doing so is mustahabb, and that the reward for that will reach the deceased and
benefit him or her; it will also benefit the one who gives the charity. Feeding the poor is one of the acts
of kindness and charity that was enjoined by the Prophet (saw), especially providing iftaar to one who is
fasting.

The Prophet (saw) said: "At every breaking of the fast Allah has people whom He emancipates (sets free)
from the Fire (of Hell), and that happens every night." (Ahmad)

If you want to mention the faults of others, then mention your own faults instead.

An elderly lady was well-known for her Imaan and for her confidence in talking about it. She would
stand in front of her house and say Alhamdulilah "Allah be praised" to all those who passed by. Next
door to her lived an atheist who would get so angry at her proclamations he would shout, "There ain't
no Lord!!" Hard times came upon the elderly lady, and she prayed for Allah to send her some assistance.
She would pray out loud in her night prayer" Oh Allah! I need food!! I am having a hard time, please
Lord, PLEASE LORD, SEND ME SOME GROCERIES!!" The atheist happened to hear her as she was praying,
and decided to play a prank on her. The next morning the lady went out on her porch and noted a large
bag of groceries and shouted, "Alhamdulilah, Allah be praised!." The neighbor jumped from behind a
bush and said, "Aha! I told you there was no God. I bought those groceries, God didn't!" The lady started
jumping up and down, clapping her hands and shouted, "ALHAMDULILAH WA SHUKRILLAH!" He not only
sent me groceries, but he made the devil pay for them!"

The Prophet (saw) used to say: "O Allah, make my hearing and my sight strong, and make them my heirs
(i.e., keep them strong until I die), and support me against the one who has wronged me, and avenge
me." ( al-Adab al-Mufrad)

The Prophet (saw) said: "Cursed is the one who engages in anal sex." (Ahmad)

A man took his son to the Prophet (saw) when he gave him a gift, to ask the Prophet (saw) to bear
witness to that. The Prophet (saw) said: "Have you given something similar to all your children?" He
replied: "No." He said: "Take it back. Fear Allah and treat your children equally." (Bukhari)

The Prophet (saw) said: "Give back the things you have been entrusted with to the person who
entrusted them to you." (Abu Dawud)

Allah says in the Holy Quran: "And whatsoever the Messenger (Muhammad SAW) gives you, take it; and
whatsoever he forbids you, abstain (from it). And fear Allah; verily, Allah is Severe in punishment." (59:7)

The Quraish approached the Prophet's (saw) uncle, Abu Talib and said, "O Abu Talib! You are our leader
and the best among us. You have seen what your nephew is doing to our religion. He abuses our gods.
He vilifies our faith and the faith of our fathers. You are one of us in our faith. Either stop Muhammad
from such activities or permit us to deal with him as we wish." Abu Talib spoke gently to them, said that
he would look into the matter and dismissed them with courtesy. But beyond informing the Prophet
(saw) of what the Quraish had said, he did nothing to stop him from spreading the new faith. Then Al
Waleed took a bold step. He decided to offer his own son, Ammarah, to Abu Talib in return for the
person of the Prophet (saw). Ammarah was a fine, strapping youth in whom men and women saw all the
virtues and graces of young manhood. The Quraish
approached Abu Talib and said, "O Abu Talib," "Here is Ammarah, son of Al Waleed. He is the finest of
youths among the Quraish, and the handsomest and noblest of all. Take him as your son. He will help
you and be yours as any son could be. In return give us your nephew-the one who has turned against
your faith and the faith of your fathers and has caused dissension in our tribe. We shall kill him. Is that
not fair-a man for a man?" Abu Talib was shocked by the offer. "I do not think that it is fair at all," he
replied. "You give me your son to feed and bring up while you want mine to kill?! By Allah, this shall not
be!"

The Prophet (saw) said: “Pray to Allah and be confident of a response.” (Tirmidhi)

Allah says: "You will not find any people who believe in Allah and the Last Day, loving or making friends
with those who oppose Allah and His Messenger (Muhammad [saw]), even though they were their
fathers, sons, brothers or their kindred (blood relatives). For such He has written Imaan (Faith) in their
hearts, and strengthened them with Rooh (proofs, light and true guidance) from Himself. And He will
admit them into Gardens (Paradise) under which rivers flow, to dwell therein (forever). Allah is pleased
with them, and they with Him. They are the party of Allah. Verily, it is the party of Allah that will be the
successful." (58:22)

The Prophet (saw) was dearer to his Companions (ra) than their own spouses, fathers, mothers and
children; he was even more beloved to them than their own selves, as Anas (ra) said: "No person was
dearer to them than the Messenger of Allah (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).
(Tirmidhi)

Concerning our beliefs, Imaam At-Tahaawi (rh) said: "We love all the Companions (ra) of the Messenger
of Allah (saw) and we do not neglect to love any one of them, nor do we disavow any one of them. We
hate those who hate and criticise them, and we only mention the Companions in good terms. Loving
them is part of religious commitment, Imaan (faith) and ihsaan, and hating them is kufr (disbelief),
hypocrisy and wrongdoing.

The Prophet (saw) said: "Whoever restrains his anger, Allah will conceal his faults." (Ibn Abi Ad-Dunya)

Ramadan is not a time of mourning or sadness. It is a time of thankfulness to Allah. The Prophet (saw)
said, "When you fast, anoint yourself. Let not the signs of the fast be seen on you." (Al-Adab al-Mufrad)
Do not feel tired and miserable. Feel alert and relax. Take things easy. This time is for your own good.
Give the greetings of Ramadaan to each other and enjoy this beautiful time.

The Prophet (saw) said: "Fasting is a shield with which a servant protects himself from the Hell-Fire."
(Ahmad)

The Prophet (saw) said: "Whoever spends the nights of Ramadaan in prayer out of Imaan (faith) and
with (sincere) hope of reward, their previous sins will be forgiven." (Bukhari) Al-Nawawi (rh) said that
what is meant by praying qiyaam in Ramadaan is to pray Taraa'weeh.

The Prophet (saw) said: "In Paradise there are 8 gates, among which is a gate called al-Rayyaan, which
none will enter but those who fast." (Bukhari)

The Prophet (saw) said: "When Ramadaan begins, the gates of Paradise are opened and the gates of Hell
are closed, and the devils are chained up." (Bukhari)

The Prophet (saw) said: "Whoever gives iftaar to one who is fasting will have a reward like his, without
that detracting from the fasting person's reward in the slightest." (Tirmidhi)

The Prophet (saw) said: "The sleep of the fasting person is worship, his (or her) silence is tasbeeh, his
dua is answered and his good deeds will be multiplied." (Bayhaqi)
